Diana 5G Magnum Question
« on: November 20, 2003, 03:56:41 PM »
I got a new 5G today, after wanting something like this for nearly 30 years.  (I don't know if you others remember them, but there was a company called "Air Rifle Headquarters" about 30 years ago that had lots of great stuff that I could never afford.)

When you take it out of the box, it has to have a "barrel weight" installed - the front sight is on the weight, so it's required.  There's an O ring that has to go into the weight, then you slide the weight over the barrel (the muzzle goes against the O ring).  You push the weight against the muzzle to line up some screw holes, then put screws in the holes.

I found that there seems to be no reasonable way to line up the screw holes.  With this O ring in place, I can push with all my strength to barely get the holes lined up (then of course I can't put the screws in because I only have two hands).  Given the force that I need to exert to line up the holes, it seems to me that the little screws might shear off if I got someone else to put them in & then released the pressure.

But if you take the O ring out, it goes together fine.  It seems to me that the only purpose for the O ring is to maintain pressure between the pieces (so that the sight does not wiggle).  But it seems a tight enough fit without the O ring.

Does anyone out there have some more knowledge or experience with this?  Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks,

John

JohnnyAir,

My son had the same problem with his.  Took us both to put it on.  After that he hasn't had any problems with it.  Good luck with yours.  Lawdog

Hi Lawdog,

Thanks for the reply.  Right now I'm shooting it without the O ring & it seems OK, though I can't really tell if I'm losing accuracy.

When I put it together (sans O Ring) the hex wrench that came with it stripped, so it's staying together until I can pick up a hex wrench that small.    After that I'll use a use a QuickGrip to squeeze it together (with O ring), since your son's worked OK with the same problem.

Thanks,

John
