I've posted this several times but I believe people are scared to try it but Weldwood Rubber cement works very very well.
It is easy to remove and will keep a scope in place on anything I've tried it on.
Just a thin line on the rings applied with a toothpick is sufficient on a clean scope and clean rings.
Just before it dries completely just use a toothpick to run around the edge of the rings to remove any excess that has squeezed out.
To remove the rings after using it just tap the rings with a wooded screwdrive handle and then use your wifes Cutex fingernail polish remover (non oily) to clean it from the scope and rings.
DO NOT use it on the screws.  Just clean them with Cutex and use locktite on them.
I have some kickers that I use Weldwood on with NO  problems at all.  Period.

I put a Leupold dual dovetail mount on my 8" 45-70 barrel.  After dozens and dozens of shots with some fairly stiff loads, it is still where I put it.  Those Leupold dovetail bases are extremely strong, and they use Torx screws to mount them to the barrel.  Torx screws are the best thing since sliced bread in my opionion!

The rubber cement sounds like a good idea!

First of all, you're probably going to break your Bushnell scope and lots 'o luck in getting Bushnell to replace it.

For heavy recoiling Encore and Contender handguns, I've gone to using SSK Industries' 4 ring, 6 screw base T'SOB setup and have had no problems with scopes moving even up to 500 S&W and 375 H&H Magnum barrels and that's without lapping or special adhesives.

I have a Redfield 3 ring base and ring set on my 14" 45-70 bbl. It's been on there since I mounted the scope, which is a 3x TC scope. The setup has been rock solid from day one. I've run some stiff smokeless loads through it for sure, but mostly I shoot blackpowder from it for pure entertainment purposes.

It's the most popular gun at the public range!

 ;D

Here's the set:

I have the same setup on my 12" 35 Rem bbl also, it's never budged either.

I still have one set sitting in the package for that elusive 375 JDJ, when one finally comes my way...

Rings... 3 rings are better than 2, and 4 better than 3 on the heavy hitters.   3 is enough for the 45-70.

I'd bet your rings have not been lapped to the scope.   As close to full contact as possible.

I've owned a couple of dozen Contender JDJ/Super Bower handcannons, and never had a scope move or fail on any of them.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

A thin coating of shoe goo allowed to dry on a set of rings does wonders holding a scope in place.  Much better than the paper shim material sent with the rings.  A dab of fingernail polish on the screws help keep them tight also.

I have 2 T/C 45/70' pistols and love to shoot them both with scopes and only 2 ring mounts and have no trouble with the scopes moving. In just the bottom 1/2 of the mount ring I put a piece of very thin DOUBLE SIDED TAPE, bought at walmart. I have never had a scope move since I've done this. Plus I haven't had a scope go bad yet either and I just use cheap Tasco or Simmons have had no problem.
This is just what I do on my heavy hitters.
if it didn't kill me it must have worked
