Standardize bullets
« on: May 09, 2010, 03:39:43 PM »
After a lot of years with testing bullets (on hunting)  - I have found out that my hunting bullets will be:

Revolvers:

.357 Mag:    Hornady 158 XTP
44 Magnum: Mimek 300 gr. and Keith 255 gr.
45 LC:        Lyman 325 gr.
454 Casull:  Hornady 240 XTP and Frontier 390 gr FMJ

TC:

375 JDJ:    Nosler Partition 260 gr.
30-30:      Swift Sciroccio
44 Mag.:   Hornady 300 XTP

All other bullets "in my store" will be shot out at the shooting range within the year :D

I've had good luck with Hornady 240 XTP in a 44 mag revolver for deer.  I'm curious why you choose the XTP for 357 mag and 454 but not 44 mag?

I, too, have standardized my bullets for my .45's.

Hunting, .45 colt with a 200grn RNFP cast from WW's in a LEE double cavity mould. Heavily compressed charge of APP BP sub powder.

Cowboy shooting, .45 colt and .45 Cowboy Special with a 200grn RNFP cast from WW's in a LEE double cavity mould. Heavly compressed charge of APP BP sub powder in both.

1911 Colt in .45acp, 200grn RNFP cast from WW's in a LEE double cavity mould. Heavly compressed charge of APP
BP sub.

Notice a pattern here, LOL!!!!!

I cast one .45 cal bullet at .452dia and size it to .452 dia. I lube it with either straight bathroom wax ring or White-lube BAC lube and use it for everything I shoot in .45 caliber for rifles and pistols. Makes life much easer.
