New to the ultra rifle society!
« on: May 02, 2010, 11:31:00 AM »
Hello Everyone, I recently purchased an Ultra-Rifle (25-06). I am considering my options for a decent scope, I personally like Nikon Optics, I have a few prostaff shotgun scopes and love them. I am looking to spend about $150 any suggestions? I can get great deals on Nikon through thier acc program (60% off retail) so I was considering the prostaff 4-12X40. Is that a good choice for this rifle or is there something better? Thanks.

Ohh yea also interested in a thumbhole stock, any idea where I could get one?

Well I guess I'll be the first to welcome you here. That Nikon should be a great scope for that gun.Try Boyds gunstocks for the thumb hole.Slow

Welcome!! Boyd's makes the laminated t-hole stocks for H&R, they're listed on the accessory barrel page, forends come from H&R or Brownell's only. See the retail parts page in the FAQs and Help sticky, a good place for any newbie to spend lots of time reading.  ;)

Check out the new Redfields. They are in your price range and have a lifetime warranty. Great scopes for the money.

Hello Everyone, I recently purchased an Ultra-Rifle (25-06)......

Welcome aboard!!! This is definately the place to get expert advise on the H&R handis and ultras.. Lots of good folks who own more than a "couple" of them  ;D   And btw, the 25-06 ultra hunter is one of my personal favorites :D

My son just put a Redfield on his .223 and he says he loves it. They offer the same warranty as a Leupold since Leupold owns them. I think you'll find that if something happens to your Nikon, it will cost you a $50 handling charge to take advantage of the "free" service.

WOW! Thanks for all the info guy's. I did decide to go with a Nikon mostly because of the discount I get on them. Hopefully I never have to send it back for anywarranty work, the $50 thing would take me to a new level of being PO'ed! Im not so sure I like the factory rail, has anyone used the warne base and ring set up, It seems like a good deal from midway only $40. Thanks again.
