« on: May 10, 2010, 09:33:21 PM »
wanting to get a 20 ga. rifled barrel for my Encore what would be the max range shooting a Barnes bullets or any slug in this set up? What kind of groups should I be getting from 75 to 100 yds?

I have an Encore 20 gauge rifled barrel upon which I mounted a scope.  I've tried about 5 different slug loads (though not Barnes) and at 50 yards got 3 shot groups of 4 to 5 inches if I remember correctly.  Personally, I wouldn't consider it much more than about a 50 yard deer gun.

Don't know about the TC  barrels.  I have two HR USH in 20 guage.  Both will shoot touching groups at fifty from a bench with 2x7 Nikon scopes.  Only shot at 100 one day with one of the guns.  Came out to about 2.5  inches or so if I remember correctly.  It's been about 5 years.  These were for my kids.  Well...  that didn't work out.  Got them setup and sighted in and then got orders to Germany.  Been here since then.  I hope they still shoot when we get back this summer.  Based on past performance I'd take a 100yd shoot broadside or quartering away if I had a decent rest.  I wouldn't go any further without serious practice and research first.
