Back in the 1970's, the PA State Police carried Ruger Security Six 6" barrel stainless revolvers in .357 magnum...they looked like a  cannon, and I have little doubt some of those  troopers bought those Rugers when the automatics came in...It was hard to beat 6-for-sure and it still is .

Snappier is the best way to describe the difference…. With the 45 being a slower felt recoil... at least to me.

As for as stopping power They are both very good… but you will find people who like the 357 and those, who like me, like the 45 auto….

IMO... with the 357 you have a lot of over penetration potential so for a carry gun I would stay away from it.
