That was a stupid question from a stupid woman.  It deserves no more thought or comment than that.

Thanks for all of the support guys.  I know what I am doing is what is best for me and my family, but it is nice to hear it from others every now and again.  I know I have the best of both worlds.  I get to spend my days with my boys then in the evenings me and my older two sons go to 'work' together.  I still have the privilege of having a career and contributing to our income since I choose job that my boys can go with me.  :)  I bet most women would be jealous that I can have my cake and eat it to!  I have the rewarding empowering job of karate instructor and I still get to be with my kids 24/7!

Funny note about the 'friend'.  I went to her sisters graduation last night and SHE COULD NOT CONTROL HER KIDS!  I had to take her kids outside to get them calmed down half-way through the ceremony.  We came back in and sat down the aisle away from her and they were NO PROBLEM for me after changing soiled diapers and refilling their EMPTY cups!  Yeah that's the kind of 'somebody' I want to be!  ::) HA!

I was looking at the resume of a friend, who is a stay at home mom. In the 10 years that she worked, she picked up an Ivy league MBA and made partner at the largest CPA firm in the US. What you really want to do is top out your career, retire and THEN pop out babies. Those will be some very happy babies.

"Mother is the name for God , On the lips and hearts of children."    Sadly we have to many eggs shells left to tend our countries children then Mothers.

Heather you are truely lucky hun , My other half would love to stay home ( or atleast she thinks she would , Been out of work for over a year being mister mom and I'M HERE TO TELL YA !! ) But our present situation doesnt even come close to allowing it. We hope after she is done with college in the next year ( And I just found a new job  FINALLY !  ) That that might be in our childrens future. Thankfully enough we are able to manage a schedule that doesnt involve us leaving our kids with strangers and it isnt easy.

We have batted this very subject around in discussions to help her with papers she has written for classes. More recently she did research with classmates for a paper on how the numbers show overwhelming support , That children raised by a parent/s with home schooling , come out more well rounded psychologicly then those being thrown to the dumbing machine we call public schools.

"Basicly having a high attachment to parents and being taught good values and high self control. Keeps a child from being delinquent during adolesence and from becoming more prone to crime as an adult..."            This is what My missus had to say on the subject ;)

Heather Keep on Keeping on .

<~~ Oldest son of a single mother that did it all ... And I would give anything to hear her voice again!  Even if I didnt want to hear the " Mom advice " she would be giving  ::)

I am sure you are doing a better job Heather than the teachers do. I drove school bus for 7 years. Seems to me like the kids got dumber every year. Doesn't seem to be any dedicated teachers anymore. They just don't care. :(

One day you will notice that your children are gifted. I don't think it will be a coincidense either.  Some how all my girls are very above average, I think mom is responsable.

HUMMMMM. If we all liked apple pie, that would be the only kind.
As I observe the question and attitude, It appears she is trying too push her thinking on you.
Some folks just don't know what too do or how to handle it when others disagree in opinion.
Shake it off---she made a social blunder.
Now, what concerns me most is what does she consider important?
It seems too me that it is all about her and not about others. NOW, since i have never heard of her or read anything in the paper about her--then--does that make her a failure in her attempt to be important?
Now, really I don't consider her to be a looser--or you either, Heather--just different roads.
I have no compulshions about working wives/mothers, my mother always worked as did my wife, so it was not/is not a subject that concerns me, either way.
You can create martierdom from either angle, if you are insecure within yourownself, and I doubt that YOU are---I don't know her so I can't haveopinion.
I would just ring it up too a social blunder.
Blessings

Heather,
Here is a vote for Somebody!  You are already there.

Our present culture bases worth on feelings.  If a person feels busy they feel that they are accomplishing.
This is part of the instant gratification mentality that has permeated our culture since WWII (Maybe a bit before).
The modern woman has been sold a bill of goods generally speaking.  NO MAN, can fulfill the role that a Mother fills
in a child's life (This is a broad statement with too many side issues to delve into).  A career may give a sense of accomplishing
but most careers are defined by pushing paper back and forth.  This makes us feel busy and important but in a majority of cases is very meaningless when really examined.

In terms of "Being Somebody" I'd encourage you to consider the impact will be in raising your children with solid values
to be contributors.  When you compare that to the role that most modern women adopt, they end up, by default, teaching
their children that things outside the home are more important than things outside the home.  This is evidenced by where
they spend most of their time and energy.  Of course, there are exceptions to this.

In 100 years, which of the two will have made the greatest impact and left a positive lasting legacy?  The mother who nurtured her children or the mother who nurtured a career?

The traditional family is the building block that God established around which a nation is established.
