Sled for BB Mortar
« on: May 09, 2010, 09:54:09 AM »
Got the tank for the BB Mortar and the metal needed, The trunnion will be welded on the rear of the powder chamber,  2 in. rd. by 12 in. long. I need help with the sled now, I can get oak, red elm  or pine in any lenght and size. Would like to make something that lays flat, take the barrel off and not weight over 80-100 lbs. also that will  take the recoil, any ideas for plans for a strong one, Thanks- Joe

How long will the barrel be?

Google 8 inch seacoast mortar and 8 inch siege mortar for ideas.

Joe,  Here's a mortar I built a few years back.  It has a steel base, but can be duplicated in wood.  Dom

My barrel is  20 in. long, Its wt. is 43 lbs. The  6 in. x 5 in. -1018 powder chamber  wts. is about 38 lbs. and the trunion is 2 in. by 12 in. long,- 10 lbs. Total wt. is 91 lbs. I can handle that for in and out of car trunk or truck, Still looking for pics. of a wood sled, Looks like you can handle yours with heavy lifts, Thanks

Since your barrel is smooth sided,  How about a Confederate style base like Lance's.
