Texas gun laws ?
« on: January 30, 2011, 02:45:59 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the law is regaurding carrying a handgun in Texas? I've been hog hunting Sout of San Antonio every year since 2002. I usually  wear a Dan Wesson .44 mag on my hip while riding in the guides truck to the hunt and while hunting.  Nobody has ever said anything about this but I recently heard that open carry is not legal in Texas.  Have I been breaking the law? Thanks
Mike

If legally hunting on private property you are fine for open carry. Public road, public property, in town, ect.... Not legal. There are gray areas but this is  the best practice

Thanks Mohawk.  I'll leave the pistol in the case while on the roads from now on. How about rifles?

Personally, I would keep a long gun cased and unloaded while on the road. That's another gray area. A lot more gray than it used to be.

I beleive as long as you are in the vehicle on the public road you are legal.I've been stopped with loaded pistol on the seat next to me and only asked if it was loaded.Once on private property do as you or owner pleases.
