I am looking at a 2-7 x 33mm Heavy Duplex Leupold, but I am open for suggestions. The longest shot would be no more than 125yds, most from 50yds to 75yds. I chose this one based on the 75yd parallax setting, plan on using it for pigs only on a 450 Marlin Ultra Hunter.

Just was browsing the Nikon website and they have the Omega 1.65-5 X 36mm that has 5" of eye relief, any feedback?

Thanks Darryle

I have happily been using two old El Paso Weavers, a 2.5 and a 3X, one with their range finding dbl cross-hair. The notion of having that extra elev. of the lower hair for distance has some merit. All in all I think I like a plain duplex hair for general all round use, especially in low light. I have an old Redfield 3-9X with such, a fine optic, but dont really have a need for that much on anything for some time now since the Weavers, at similar power, are smaller and lighter than the Redfield set at 3.
I follow these posts about new (and pricey) glass, but no sense in these sitting on the shelf as good as they are.

Right off the top of my head, at first blush of the topic title, and without reading the poster's request first, I would have to say one that allows the shooter's eyeball to jump out there just ahead of the bullet and kind of clear the way.  You know, make a path.  Probably a couple of dixie cups strung together at the ends of an empty toilet paper roll sort-of-thingy.  It would also have to allow the shooter's eyeball to suck right back into his head (as if nothing had happened) just before the bullet impacted the target.  You know, that sort of thing.

I apologize for that.

generally I will put a red dot, or a 3-9, the latter mainly because they seem to be the most abundant and reasonable priced scopes made.
I would like to use a 1-4 on most of mine, I rarely shoot past 200 and like everything to be closer if possible. a more powerful scope to me only screws me up. my millet DMS is almost perfect, its a heavy sob though.

good luck
Dave

Bushnell has a really nice Banner series shotgun scope. I have one on a Whelen and it is great. Long relief (5-6 inches) and really clear. I think for any hard kickers it's hard to beat.

I have a 2.5 Weaver on my.  It was the part of the K series that came out a few years back but they don't make them any more.

NO LAUGHING  My .45-70 wears the same old Tasco 3-9x50 that it had when I bought the rifle used.  It's still hangin' on there workin' just fine after the four or five years I've had it and a lot of rounds through it.  I've got dead man's eyes, but in low light....every light....it has put meat on the table......all for about $69.95 on sale.  I have no idea what went on with that scope and rifle befoe I bought it.  All I can tell ya, is a 500 dollar scope equals two Handi Rifles

Pete.

Power is not an issue. You want a scope with long eye relief and good light gathering qualities. Any scope from 2.5X up to a variable 3 X 9 will work if you have good light gathering and 5" or so of eye relief. Cross hairs is a matter of personal preference. I have a 2 X 7 power shotgun scope on my 444 Marlin Handi. I can dial it down for closer or moving targets and dial it up for longer shots. If I can see it, I can see it better through the scope and I do not have to worry about the scope jacking up my eyebrow. Good Luck and Good Shooting.

Been using a Bushnell Trophy "High Contrast Optics" 3-9X40 that came on a trade rifle I took in , I use the Bushy on my 44 mag and it has handled the hottest and heaviest I have thrown at it and still kicking . Also like the real short OAL of the scope on the handi , Balances well .

I ended up with the Leupold 2-7 Heavy Duplex, $183 with my employee/vendor discount at Cabela's.

I looked thru a good number of scopes for MZ loaders to shotguns, and this one was by far my favorite, Thanks for the input guys, I have Warne rings on the way, had to order several sets of bases and rings for about 6 different rifles, so I could get free shipping and a discount on them as well.

The Nikon Prostaff  2-7x32 is perfect and doesn't require high mounts.
