I just knew it

...after looking in my almost empty gun safe, I caved in. One of those" I don't need but want" situations.  A Husky 1600 in 6.5x55 is on the way. Good price I think at CN $ 425.

Excellent choice, I think you got a good buy.  I have had several swedish mausers but wanted a new production 6.5x55 so I put a custom barrel on a savage action.  It is now my favorite because of its accuracy and max loads don't make me squint my eyes.

Congratulations on your 6.5X55.

In 2008 and 2009 I took two antelope, two deer, and one elk with my Rem. M700 Classic 6.5X55 with Leupold FXII 4X scope hunting near my home in SE Wyoming.  With careful hunting and judicious shot selection the 6.5X55 can do it all.

I hope your experience is as gratifying as mine has been.

Rifle is in the mail( no pun intended) as of yesterday and so are the needed reloading items from another source. My first batch of handloads will be with Hdy's 160 gr. RN's and Norma MRP powder.

Don't discount the lighter bullets  ;) the Speer 120 grain shoots and performs well with 4350 powder and in my rifles has accounted for a few Deer and the odd Fox or two  ;D A buddy from Missouri used the 125 Gran Partition in his with Reloader 22. I am currently using Hornady 129's in mine.

I'm not discounting on those lighter weights.
I just have a liking for slower heavy for cal bullets and the range I may ever encounter is 10 yards tops.
Of course there is always the possibility that this rifle just doesn't like those Hdy's and I like Speer bullets as well.

                                               It Came !!

The rifle, it came today.  I had a quick look at it and found nothing alarming a first.

On closer inspection somebody had really messed  with the stock by free floating the barrel. The channel was opened  uneven and the wood was not re-sealed. The action bolts was loose in the wood and if you tightend the back one down the bolt jammed when trying to open it. The trigger area was just thick with crud. It looked like it has never been cleaned and also stored for some time. I'm going to get some degreaser tomorrow to see if that stuff comes off without a total disasembly.

The bore looks good, no surprise there. The seller does advertise his products by stating the condition of the bore.
I presume it is the original stock with the Monte Carlo(?) cheekpiece. Being a southpaw myself that isn't a bonus. I have never done any woodwork on a stock. The action and barrel need to be seated and probably glass bedded.I'm thinking that would cost about the same or close to getting a synthetic replacement stock. After looking at some websites I'm confused. I see listings for Husquarna, for commercial Mausers, small ring large ring etc. Which brings up the question What am I looking for that would fit my Husquarna 1600??

I don't want to fiddle with it either, Is there a drop-in available??

Sorry to hear that and I know how you feel  :'(. Those darned people who keep banging on about "Free Floated barrels"  >:( I brought a BSA Majestic Featherweight with the same problems. For now until I can get a professional job I have filled the barrel channel with coloured wood filler and bedded it. It doesn't look too bad but once I get a few more projects out the way it will be going off to have a proper fix.

Now as to your Husqvarna, not that I am trying to lure you away from GB's but these guys can give you all the info your going to likely need about your Model 1600:-

You might even find a stock as sometimes they know where to get them or even have a spare about the place. Sorry I cannot be more helpful  :(.

You done good. Thanks. I have some Marine epoxy that can be thickened with various fillers however I am just dense enough to get the barreld action permanently attached to the stock :o  Me scared !!

BBF I think if  you coat all the receiver, barrel and other parts with a good coat of past wax or mould release you should be safe from gluing the metal into the stock. You might want to go to the Gunsmithing forum on GB and ask for advice.  I'm sure there are spray on products that would assure you don't glue the stock on. Oh and I have heard that you should fill all the holes with modeling clay. Don't rush into this, get some advise. You might go to Brownell's or Midway's website and see if they have some DIY advice section.

Thanks All for the advise. I managed to place a flat washer under the rear action bolt which took care of the jam.  I am going to shoot that rifle when I get the time just to see what it does as is. Btw, that two position safety is an accident looking for a time to happen. :o
