« on: May 15, 2010, 06:40:59 PM »
i purchased my 2nd handi today.  was at the ft. wayne gun show and found a 44 mag. brand new, and cheap.  i then found myself carrying it out to the truck.

any words of wisdom on what to expect.  it will be for deer hunting.  looking for a scope, or red dot.  not wanting anything real powerfull.  thanks.

i think i am hooked also, 2 down and many more on my list........

My Handi .44 wears a red dot.  I can shoot minute of deer with it, but not MOA.  It works well for me because I have impaired vision in my right eye and you use red dots with both eyes open.  It is also excellent in low morning and evening light.  With both eyes open, you never loose sight of your target.  My .44 is reamed to .44 Super Magnum and shoots .44 Special, .44 Russian, .44 Mag and .44 SM.  If you don't reload, the Hornady LEs shoot great in it.

Good luck with it ;D

picked up a red dot.  a simmons.  it wont fit on the scope rail, is this a problem for anyone else.  just replace the factory rail, or get a different red dot??  really like it and want to use it if i can.  thanks

Cut a new slot in the rail so it will fit, you can use a file or hacksaw, but a nice finish will come from a carbide blade in a tablesaw.  ;)

I have the 44 mag with a new Redfield 2-7x33 mounted on it.

I love the Redfield on the Handi, I will definitely be buying more Redfields.

thanks guys...  i got it mounted, looks good, bore sighted, now just ready to shoot....  way to windy again...

heres a question:::  i shoot sabots in my muzzleloader, i use .44 mag bullets.  can these be used to reload with.  they are ready available, and you can even get just plain lead bullets.  i am shootin 245 gr bullets in my mz and that is what i shoot in my super redhawk also, but never thought about using the same bullets to reload with til i was going through my cabinet and seen them there.  just a question i guess, you can buy these at wal mart, meijer, and they are considerably priced good.....

Nice find, great deer gun. Mine wears a Simmons Pro Diamond 4X32 it can be mounted on low rings in front of the hammer spur. I don't reload so can't help with that question but mine likes the Hornady LEs and the Win. white box.
