The last I heard 'Gays Mills' by Prairie De Chien was ground zero, or close for the wild hogs. It would be mostly all private land and the dumb ones have been long ago shot. There may be some opportunity out that way.

I live about 50 miles away from "ground zero" as the crow flies. If they were a big problem with a substantial population, I probably would hear about it or at least know someone having the opportunity to hunt them. I know a coupla landowners from Crawford County and they have yet to see any on their property, altho it is considered the county with the largest population. I ride motorcycle in that area all the time......I hunt deer and turkeys about 25 miles away from there. Have yet to see any wild hogs in that area. I have seen feral pigs closer to home, but they are few and far between. Two or three at a time. There is a small problem with feral hogs in the state, but unfortunately for those interested in hunting them, I believe it is confined to small areas and not widespread. Areas where they are a problem is like Sourdough said, on private land, with limited access. Around here, when it comes to hunting anything, whether it be pigs or morels, you need to know someone to get access. I have seen ads in the local paper from hunters looking for a place to hunt them and willing to pay for the privilege. May be an option.........

it is a farce and a waste of time.  once in a while someone shoots a pig, but the story that they are a big problem is untrue.   if you want to see some irritated people, go down there and start asking people about it.   if they dont like hogs, they HATE potential hog hunters.

I have killed a couple of feral hogs in Crawford county while soley targeting them (not incedental kills) but you will work your ass off finding them. You will knock on many doors and socialize at the bar with the locals, and if that pans out you will still need ALOT of luck to connect.

A father of a son on, my sons, baseball team did just that a few years ago. When "the sightings" were 1st brought to the attention of the public. Thought He and a friend would get on the ground floor and see what happened. At the time LaCrosse was one of the areas. They do HATE potential Hog hunters in that area. From a polite NO, to a normal of RUDE, It's mine and you can't have it attitude. BUT, we shall see what happens. Wait until there attitude lets the hogs multiply and now they'll want our beloved DNR to pay them for damaged crops et.al. Of course I'm speculating on that, but then again why would that be any different from past deals made by our beloved DNR and the land owners who ARE part of the problem?
Working your ass off hunting hogs is a given, in fact that is what it is all about, hunting, and when you do succeed it is just the icing. Your lesson in futility will come from asking or trying to succeed in permission to hunt someones land. Come to think of it, your probably better off socializing with the local bar flys, you will have more success and your headache will be well earned, by not banging your head against a wall, dealing with landowners. yuppers.  i was down there quite a few years ago when the story first broke.  people went from decent to instantly hateful once you asked about hogs.
