How about loading the 180 gr 35 Remington to 2350 - 2400 fps?  That puts you right in the range of the 300 Savage with a larger bullet, and some great knock-down power.  This velocity can be achieved with several of the medium burning powders.
The older I get...The better I was.

I only have one deer rifle; 99f 300 Savage with a 2-7 scope and I love it! However; if I could afford it, I would love to have an old Remmington 141 slide action 35 Rem. with a peep sight for those wet sloppy still hunting days. I handled (and drooled over) one of these a few years ago in a local gun shop and I can't forget it! That rifle just seemed to point itself when brought up to the shoulder.
