45/70 siles sharps
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:57:11 AM »
I have bought one, and can find no information on it. The owner said he bought it in 1981, new, and had only fired five rounds in it, 405 grain remington corelokts. It does not have a set trigger, and the trigger pull is about 8-10 pounds. Does anyone know anything about this gun. I can find little or nothing on the internet.

I believe they were built by the company currently known as IAB in Gandone Italy.  I had one of them years ago (late 80s) and it was not the best rifle I have ever owned but it was functional and shot fairly well.  These rifles usually have a pretty stiff main spring that you can lighten the trigger pull by a little grinding.  The V mainspring serves two functions in the sharps,  The longer arm drives the hammer and the lower arm is the trigger spring.  If you take out the spring ( I use a pair of vise grips to compress the spring) you can remove mettal from the sides of the lower spring leg bu careful grinding (do not get it too hot or you will loose temper and need a new spring).  I took a little off and got the trigger pull down to around 4 pounds fairly easily.
