Severe weather
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:12:37 PM »
Wal boys and girls we had some real bad weather move thru Bama this afternoon and evening. Over in Tuscaloosa straight line winds collapsed the roof on an apartment complex traping some residents and making all of them in there homeless for now.

I don't think the winds were all that bad here but lots of rain and the thunder and lightning were a sight to behold around my house at least. You've heard of thunder shaking your house? Well I'm here to tell ya it did indeed.

In fact it shook three of my four bows clean off the rack. Just prior to 10:00 PM a I saw the entire yard light up from lightning and instantly heard the clap of thunder and the house shook. The noise was so loud it was hard to decide what we heard but clearly we heard something fall. We began searching for what it shook loose and what I found were my compound bow and two of my three recurves knocked off the rack and laying on the deep freeze under them in the storage room. That's some serious shaking.

In the 7:00 to 8:00 PM time slot I was trying to watch the season finale of Flash Forward and at best I got to see 15 minutes of it due to power outages and the satellite TV signal failure. The big shake came around 9:55 PM here. Matt said all they got at their house was a bit of rain but he saw lightning in the distance. I told him that lightning in the distance was rat on top of me.  :o

Any of the rest of the Bama crowd get serious storms today?

GB,

Glad you didn't have anything worse happen.  Seems like the storms have been bad this spring.

Algore and the National Academy of Science is proud to declare that the weather extremes we are seeing are the result of Global Warming.  Of course I'm really on board with that, since our temperatures here are running about 20 degrees below average for this time of year.  What more proof do we need?

Glad you weathered the storm, Graybeard. We had storm chasers running around all over the place and the weather people predicting really bad storms out here on the southern plains day before yesterday. It thundered and lightened a little and we got .3" of rain. Didn't even interrupt satellite tv. Couple of towns reported some hail and that was the worst.

Algore is an idiot. I have lived on these plains almost 73 years and we get some doozies but they are no worse this spring than they were last year or the year before and so on back. Of course Ol' Al has made a hell of a lot more money than I have so he isn't stupid, just an idiot that can get a lot of people to believe him.  ::)

In B'ham, we got a little less than what you got Thursday night.
Lot of wind, not much lightning.
One 4" limb, about 16' long, down in the front yard.
Friday mid-morning seemed a lot worse.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.
