OK, will somebody tell me the new rules on here?
« on: November 26, 2003, 05:39:12 AM »
Are my posts being deleted because I have an opinion that might differ?  Am I not entitled to have an opinion?  Who deleted my post about 30-30 sight-in problems, and why?

HUH???

Ain't no new rules. I've not deleted any of your posts or anyone else's for that matter for a long time. Ladobe hasn't mentioned anything to me about deleting any posts of late. When he does he usually sends a PM explaining why.

What thread or subject have you had posts deleted on?

FWIW Robert, I have not deleted nor edited any posts made by anyone on this forum since before the "PJ" thing.   Haven't needed to either, the forum has been wonderful with all the bad elements gone.

Since no one but GB, Matt or I could delete them as far as I know, and since I wasn't following the thread you are referring to and so never saw your post, I don't have an answer for you.

(and BTW, as GB said, I always advise him of anything I do or ask his opinion if its something I am not sure what to do about as this forums moderator - before I do it)

On the thread, SIGHT IN PROBLEMS WITH MY 30-30,   Bullseye was reffering to my post when he replied....
I totally agree with the comments about making sure the mount screws are not bottoming out, I have had this happen before.
It was the first reply to the request, and it totally disappeared.
No harm done, just wondering.
  Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Sorry Robert, I sure don't have any clue what might have happened if you are certain the post did once show up. Matt never even visits the site any longer much less does anything. Only if his technical help is needed and I call him will he even look at it these days. So that leaves me and Ladobe to delete posts.

I will say this. I "think" some posts are disappearing without anyone deleting them. Not sure why, how or what is going on. As a for instance. On the Classified Traders forum no one but me or Matt can delete posts. I've not deleted any and I know Matt hasn't even looked at the forum since it was set up. Yet there is only one page of posts and none except the recent ones. This is a mystery to me and one for which I have no answer.

I will ask Matt to check and see if there is anything he can do. I think from time to time he does a data base update kinda thing sorta like doing a defrag on your computer. Don't recall what he calls it. Might be time again.

It isn't a big deal that it is gone, but that was very rude of me to react that way without talking to someone first.  I humbly apologize.

GB,

Just a thought but you may want to look into your autoprune option.. I dont think that it would delete a single post in a thread but it will auto delete fourm if it is set to.. On your admin page its under forum admin on the left side should be called Pruning... Also you could to the forum admin then go to managment go down to the fourm you want hit edit and make sure autoprune is not checked there.. Hope this helps..

I suggested to try each screw one at a time.  But it is water under the bridge.  Really not that big of a deal except for having to live with myself for coming off as a hothead.

Like you said Robert... it water under the bridge.   Don't worry about it - as long as your feelings are OK now, I don't think anybody elses should have been hurt.

Thanks grizz. I don't have any of the forums set to auto prune. I go in and manually prune but only on the four classifieds forums on the site (TC Barrel Trading, CAS Classifieds, Classifieds and Trading Post). It is not beyond the realm of possibility that while intending to prune one of the latter two I messed up big time and pruned the Classified Traders instead. Don't think so but it is not impossible. Wouldn't be the first mistake I've made in my life.  :-D

Still that wouldn't explain individual posts disappearing. For that I have no real explaination. I think Optimizing is the term Matt uses for what he does to the data base from time to time. Might be time to do it again. I know we had some problems awhile back on the PMs, they just weren't going out even tho you'd think they were. I deleted a bunch of the older ones. I think there were something like 15,000 of them in the system. It is a laborious process to delete those as I have to do it one at a time. Can't just check a box by a hundred or so at a time to make them go away. I've reduced it a lot but should take out a few more thousand probably.

Right now my web site e-mail addresses are not working either. I can't send out any e-mail from any of my many site e-mail accounts. I think I'm getting incoming but can't send them out. I try but the server rejects the account. I'm trying to get Matt to take a look and see what's going on but his computer store is eating up most of his time these days.

It's not you personally, I'm sure you are an all-round good guy, and a true gentleman. What it is, it's nobody is interested in you opinions! :)  :-D  :D  Seriously, if this helps, I saw your post, before it vanished. And, I see that your Thanksgiving msg. still hasn't vanished. So, just be more careful how you arrange things on your desk, before typing. And, for Gosh's sake, don't forget to wear your aluminum foil hat!!! That's the surest way to oblivion! >>>>>>>>>>>>>Bug.

GB,

Well it was a thought lol..  I have seen phpbb do this a few times.. But every time I seen it it was a) auto pruning was turned on or b) server moves but I dont think you moved servers... The only other thing I can think of is to go to the admin page an resync the forums.. You may also want to have Matt upgrade to the newest release of phpbb which is 2.0.6.. As far as mail accounts that shouldnt have anything to do with phpbb.. The mail servers that are set in phpbb must be working or you wouldnt get any new users.. Might want to check your admin control panel for your host and make sure the email addys are entered in there but since you can recive mail they should be.. Maybe they changed the smtp (outbound server) server name? That would make the most sense anyway..  Got me if none of that works since I have no idea how the backend of your site is setup... Good Luck and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Grizz, nope the e-mail problem is not related to phpbb at all. It just works off the server who hosts us. I have now noticed a comment on it about spamcop.net whatever that is. I've forwarded the error messages to Matt to see if he can figure out what is going on. It appears I can get e-mail on the accounts, I just can't send it out on them. I don't think it affects the forums based e-mail that members use. I believe this is only related to my own personal accounts from the server we are on.

I've also mentioned the new update of phpbb and asked him to look into what is needed to change to it here. Matt is the technical genius behind the site. I only know how to work the forums here. The rest he has to take care of.
