Armi Sport 1874 Sharps from Chiappa
« on: May 15, 2010, 06:41:53 AM »
Is anyone familiar with the 1874 Sharps from Chiappa Arms being sold through Legacy Sports? Blowout price of $890.00 plus shipping. Seems like a nice price but makes you wonder why they had to have a 'blowout' sale. May not be anything wrong at all with them but was just wondering if anyone had experience with this gun.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Its the same factory that makes the Armi Sport Sharps.  I do not know which model it is but they do make a baby sharps that sells for around $900 to $1000 and I have seen sales on sharps rifles for around $900 for a Pedersoli which is a better gun.  The Armi Sport ones that I have owned and or seen look good and they will shoot most of the time but there have been some that have lock work problems Like too much spring tension and hard trigger pulls.  I have an 1863 Armi Sport carbine that had a 30 pund trigger pull when I got it.  I thined out the main spring and now it has a 4 pound trigger.

It seems that Chiappa owns several firearms manufacturers under their name. The 1874 Sharps I bought has the Armi Sports name on it and it is an excellent made rifle. Fit and finish are excellent, checkering is sharp and pointed with no over runs. Bluing is even and case coloring looks good, the barrel looks pretty good inside with no chatter marks. Wood to metal fit is very good. The set trigger on this thing is great, it came set at 19 oz. according to my RCBS Trigger Gauge. I should get to shoot it this weekend.
