For kids a reactive target is the best.  I use 4" clay targets, soda bottles full of water, and milk jugs of water.  Ballons also work well for smaller kids, if you have an air compressor, blowing up those ballons is a pain without one.  Kids will shoot them as fast as you can put them out.  Another thing is the small sillouete targets, expecially the ones you can reset remotely.

Years ago I got a piece of Boiler Plate from the scrap yard.  I cut out a life size sheep, and hung it out at 200 yards.  You should hear that thing ring when kids shoot it with a .22 RF.  The looks on their faces is priceless.  They had rather lob shots out to the sheep than shoot paper targets any time.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I guess it's the kid in me, but I find paper bore-ing.  Once I'm sighted in, I go for rocks, dirt clods, plastic bottles, ect.  Kids and I always have more fun that way.  DP

The smile on the kids face is priceless. Also typical. I have very seldom ever seen a kid that was shooting and didn't wear a large grin. Introducing kids to shooting and gun safety is such an honor. I hate to think of the number of teens that learn about guns from friends while mishandling them. Many tragedies occur this way. I cherish the memories of my dad taking me shooting and hunting!

i have a rule in my house.  if i got a gun and they want to see it or shoot it they have to ask!
if i find out 1 of the kids were checking them out on there own there is serious trouble.
if they ask?  i grab it and shells so we can go shoot it they seem to ask often so we get to shoot alot.
rather have them know about guns than be cerious about them or shown by a unskilled neighbor kid.

I think the better gangs in the big cities practice good gun safety ;D
Probably get a bad mark for this BUT, I have raised 3 kids and have had 1 to five guns at a time in the kitchen corners loaded. All handguns are fully loaded at about all times. The only time they are unloaded is if I'm cleaning them. They learned from the beginning to not touch and then to handle them safely as if any gun was loaded. All their friends learned this when they visited and never had any problems.
But I live in the country, not in the HOOD ;D  I bet they leave theirs loaded too ::)

They have always had that smile on their faces when shooting. My son was here a week ago and his friend came over and while they were grilling they ask me for a gun to shoot. I handed them a 45 and they walked to the backstop and shot clay targets and some bowling pins while the meat was cooking.

My dad stopped by the other day and asked me what all the milk jugs were for in the garage. About 30 waiting for some water ;D  When there's snow on the ground I put in a little food coloring for effect 8)
