First Turkey

Shot my first turkey yesterday.  I started hunting them 30 years ago when Mass. had its first season and gave up after about 4 years.  (I could not call and then there were not a lot of birds)  A friend I hunt deer with wanted company and about 5 years ago I started taging along. We finally got a system and either found a real dumb bird or got lucky.  Harvested a 14.5 tom with a 9 inch beard using the new federal Flight-Control 12 gauge shot.

great job man! I like to pic on the deaf, dumb, and blind birds myself. Apparently the older the dumber cause this year I got a Rio that was probly 20lbs and end up having 4 beards! and bout an inch + spurs. I also got another rio that would go bout 15 -18 with 2 beards and inch long spurs. Turkey hunting is my new favorite sport. I was prohibted from participation due to the copious amounts of poison ivy/oak where I hunt but I have since built up enough tolerance that I won't get it just from looking at it.  Im also a fan of Federal 3 inch 2oz #6s w/ flite control.  they really put a turkey in its place, my freezer! again, great job and good luck in your next venture.

I too finally got to take a turkey a ride in my truck for the first time.  Been hunting for almost ten years, been really close many times but couldnt seal the deal.  Got drawn to hunt a reserve hunt, and was there maybe 2 hours.  The sad part of the story is, I was alone.  Didnt have anyone to hold the camera for me.  But anyway a bird in the bag.  Congrats to all who smacked one!  Brian

Since my first bird i've turned into an every other year guy. This was the year 19# 8.5" beard 3/4" spurs openeing morning in N.Y.

Fletch6- Great job and it proves you can stalk a turkey, even if he is a bit slow. I got mine on 5/10- 21#, 8" beard, 15/16 spurs and his breast feathers were gone from working his hens. I did a quick walk through my turkey spot this morning and another Tom and 2 hens were in sight. I'm hanging my shoot gun up until the NH fall season in the CT River Valley. Did you take any pictures? Here's mine.
