Trap mods?
« on: April 29, 2010, 04:18:32 PM »
Just for the heck of it I thought I'd get you guys opinion of what sort of laminations I should put on some #2 bridgers I just got. Should I go with inside, outside or both. These are going to be used exclusively for coyotes and will have all the other bells and whistles on them. Already got the base plate rods welded on with two 3mm links of chain, swivel, two links of chain, another swivel, two more links than a double stake swivel. These will also be wearing #1 coils spring to four-coil. Dog eye has been closed to remove the forward movement and pans will be night-latched. I may replace the stock dogs with round ones later, but haven't made up my mind yet. Worm

Their Ohio legal from the get go. I just want to beef up the jaws to avoid having them popped out of the frame. Of course it would have to be a very large coyote to ever pop out the jaws on a bridger #2. I'm going to go ahead and outside laminate all of them and maybe do a couple with inside and outside lams. Ought to be good for the occassional fox that gets caught in one.

The ODNR measures from the inside of the jaws so any outside laminations wouldn't increase the jaw spread. When I laminate any trap all I'm trying to do is increase the surface area of the jaws to get a better hold on the critter and to increase the strength of the jaws so there won't be any popped jaws. Increasing the jaws thickness increases the jaws strength and allows for less flexing when you get a hard fighting animal like a coyote. Same with base plating. More strength means more holding power.
