Carry mode for CZ 75B
« on: April 10, 2008, 05:02:11 AM »
I recently purchased a CZ75B made around 1996. Best shooting pistol stock pistol I've shot! Is it safe to carry this pistol with hammer down on a live round?

I have one and I think you will like yours.  I believe the manual says that there are 2 way to carry it.  One is with the hammer lowered all the way down on a loaded round.  The rebounding hammer cannot contact the hammer if the trigger is not pulled, and the second is cocked and locked.

you just have to be really careful lowering the hammer because you have to pull the trigger as you lower the hammer.  Make sure its pointed in a REALLY safe direction if you do that.

I have a c75 non b and carry it cocked and locked.  It does shoot great.  I have entered a military pistol match that I will shoot Saturday with it at 25 yds slow fire from bullseye positions and am hoping to do well.  This will be my first competition with any kind of firearm and am looking forward to it.

I am also another proud owner of my CZ pistol.  Mine is the model CZ-75BD and I love it.  It does not have a safety like the CZ-75B but it has a decocker lever and that's how I carry it.  All I have to do is pull the double action trigger for the first shot and it is single action after that.  The double action trigger ha a long pull but since there's no safety to disengage, then it gives you some protection like a revolver.
I had managed to easily get a 3.5" group at 50 yards open sights from the bench.

I just seen this post again.  Well, the first match I got 8th.  The last time I shot the match I got 2nd.  I have not been able to get good groups off a rest but do not have a good pistol rest either.  I get it down to 3 in at 25 yrds off the rest I have but can come close to that off hand too.  These pistols will just shoot.

These pistols will shoot.  I carry mine "Cocked and locked." I am going to have the custom shop put a bigger thumb safety on it soon, a i sometimes missthe safety when i draw and present. I think condition 2 is more dangerous, because you are forced to lower the hammer .  I hate loath and dispise decockers, and double action trigger puls on a semi auto.  the good trigger is one of two reasons to carry a semi auto over a revolver.  second ios firepower.

I carry all my cz's with the hammer down so i can use the double action first shot mode i like them that way.  You can still put the safety on too with the hammer down if i remember correctly. But i just leave the hammer down ready to rock with the double action first shot.

I carry my CZ with the hammer down this is completely safe as the 75 b has a firing pin block that will not let the firing pin go forward until the trigger is pulled all the way back.  You have to be careful when lowering the hammer after loading but then I am use to that as that is how I carry my 1911s and High power pistols as well.  I personally do not like to carry a pistol cocked and locked though I think it is a safe mode but just have a think about leaving the mainspring compressed for long periods of time (I know this is silly but what can I say its me).  I have timed myself in getting a pistol drown and ready to go and find that I can draw and cock a SA pistol just as fast as I can draw and take off the safety.  I like the CZ because with the DA trigger I do not have to day anything but draw and pull the trigger.  This is whay I carry it now and not the HP.

I don't like carrying a pistol cocked n locked or half cocked this is why i like the cz's design.  The cz75 is the preferred pistol of the russian special ops too.  We've been hammering my cz's along with my 1911's to see if they will fail too and they haven't yet nor do i expect them to.
