12/20 ga. reloading equip. Is this a good Deal????
« on: June 03, 2010, 08:19:32 AM »
I'm looking to surprise my hubby with some reloading stuff, thought since we shoot our 20 ga. more often then anything else, this would be a good start. All my hunting uncles reload shotguns not rifles.

Found a local guy with this on craigslist. He's asking $125 for it all and said there's prolly 10 boxes of shells that can be reloaded with everything he has there.

What do you think? Is it a good deal? Is it easier to start with something less complicated? He's a newbie to reloading.

Thanks in advance.

AD:

Two reloaders and supplies for sale or to trade for small outboard motor or small boat trailer.

I have a MEC Jr with dies for 12 ga or 20 ga, a Lee load all for 20 ga.
1 bag of 5 shot 25# and 1 bag of 7.5 shot 25#
Approx. 400, 20 ga Remington RXP wads, and approx. 50 AA wads for 12 ga.
Approx. 300 AA Winchester and Remington RXR hulls.
2, one pound cans of RED Dot powder and approx. 2# of Green Dot powder, and 1/2# of 4756 IMR powder.

$125 for that, I would run to him with money in hand
a new mec JR alone is over $125
Round me the led shot is going for about $40 a 25# bag

I would not take the powders though, you have no idea of it's history,  and not worth taking a chance.   If he insist you taking the powder I would take it out and stared it in your flower beds and water them very well.  the nitrates in the powder will do wonders for your flowers

By the time you get back to the ad. more than likely it will be gone. If not grab it for the offer while it last.

I agree it's a good buy at the price assuming the loader is in good condition. You really don't wanna be swapping gauges on a MEC tho it can be done you don't want to try loading two gauges with one loading swapping back and forth. If he has been doing so the loader very well might need some TLC and parts.

As stated shot is running $30-$40 a bag these days.

I tend to agree on the powder it's a real unknown and might be better used as fertilizer in the garden. Red Dot and Green Dot both can be identified reasonably well as mostly black grains with some colored red or green as the case might be. But with three powders involved you can't be sure some mixing hasn't occurred since  you don't know the safety habits of the guy. I don't take opened cans of powder for use as anything but fertilizer.

I'd say the shot and loader alone are worth the asking price and the hulls and wads at a bit but if not once fired the hulls have little real sales value tho might still be useable.

The loader should really be checked out by one of those hunting uncles who reload to be sure it's not trashed out.

thanks you'all

When I called him about the stuff, he was surprised. He's had no hits on it. I'm gonna go take a look at it. If he will take the powder off maybe I can get it alittle cheaper. Well, now that the old man knows, he'll go with me and check it out.

Thanks for the advice.

Hello Jane and ron That is a good deal , open cans of powder isabad thing since you don't know his habits, may poured some back in the wrong can. if full unopened be ok. Good luck
