Getting the rattle out of a 500 forend

  Is there a way to get the rattle out of the forend of a Mossberg 500?  Mine is an older gun and it rattles enough to be annoying.  I've handled some new ones that seemed much tighter, much quieter.  Is that just because they are new?  Will they rattle in time?  Or is there an upgrade that I could just swap out the forend and make my shotgun a little more discreet to walk through the woods with?  Thanks for any input.

My 835 rattles like ball bearings in a tin bucket but I haven't found a solution to remedy the problem.  It didn't scare off two wary turkeys I took last week.  I've had it about 10 years and just use it for turkey hunting so I don't have to listen to the noise much. I was thinking some white grease on the guide rods and camo tape around the magazine tube might help.   I usually don't need fast followup shots so if it makes it hard to pump, it won't be a big deal.

i had to take 1 of my guns in to the gunsmith and while i was there i found a new mossberg 500 in camo it is a 20 ga, combo fent rib with x full/full/ mod/imp and a riffled slug barrel  with rifled sights. talked with them for awhile 
and ended up putting it on lay a way 379.00  total  now what kind of scope?
   
i have put a rubber band around the fore arm and barrel to quite down the rattle the rubber band breaks when you pump in a new shell kinda a one shot fix. it but it works

the action bars on a maverick model 88(economy 500) are pinned directly to the fore-arm and there is no inner sleeve-it just rides on some molded in ribs inside the fore-arm. it is a lot quieter than the 500. for what it's worth, bubba.

  That's good to know.  I wonder if they are interchangeable.

i'll try it on my 88 and my son's 500 in the mornin' and let ya know. as 88 is just econ 500 internals should be the same. have a good'en neighbor, bubba.

just tried it and they interchange on my guns. if you have synthetic fore-arm we could probably work out a trade. mine is the ribbed black synthetic.

i would contact the HAVLIN,  they carry the old mossberg parts as well as some modern ones. they told me that the military version has the slide arms spring loaded or something to prevent the rattle. maybe you can purchase the military version.   http://www.havlinsales.com/

I found this information on another site that was selling forearms.  Sounds like the bars come with the synthetic forearms?  I've included a picture of my forearm.


"Comparison of action slide lengths: top 7-5/8”, bottom 6-1/2” Measure from top of threads to bottom of collar that holds the action bars. This measurement is critical to fit when ordering forearms or stock sets that include a forearm. For the most part, 20-year and older sporting shotguns and new tactical shotguns use the 7-5/8” slide. New sporting models have used the 6-1/2” slide for almost 20 years. There are exceptions, however. To be sure, measure!  NOTE:  Since 2006, most new 500®, 535® and 835® sporting shotguns with synthetic forearms may not use an action slide tube at all; rather, the pump handle will have two integral bars pinned into the handle itself.  If you have one of these, you cannot use a forearm that was designed to go over an action slide tube without first buying the correct length tube and action slide tube nut."
