Guys you don't have to agree with me on the M1 carbine. It ain't required. The question was "which one" indicating give your opinion and I did. In your memories have you ever thought how fortunate that no one got shot drinkin beer and shootin guns? Something I never done, even as a teenager, and hope any reading this thread will not consider the past time of drinking and guns a good thing to do.
Shootall my disdain for the 9mm is founded on actual experience in the man stopping department, (not mine, but fellow officers) but it's still 7 calibers bigger than the more anemic 30 carbine round, and it in a carbine would be at least as good, and most likely more accurate. I had just as soon have one of those retched Marlin Camp carbines in 9mm as I had an M1 carbine. Bigger hole=bigger leak.
This young man is wanting it seems, a versatile gun, and he asked for opinions, and in my opinion, the M1 carbine has a very limited use. Bullet selections is very limited, and I don't see that much ammo laying around in most stores I go into, and yes I know you can order it. Accuracy is very limited. Range is very limited. And stopping power on all but the smallest critters is very limited.
As far as the 357 magnum in a rifle, it will do ANYTHING a 3030 will do inside 100 yards, and there is nothing marginal about that. I have hunted with the latter for over 50 years, and the former for about 6 years. This ain't an argument it's a discussion of opinions.
That I chose exerts out of your post Lloyd was not to pic but, to point, not at you, but at "my opinion" of the rifle. It seems as it was a mistake on my part, so my bad, and now we are bringing things into the thread that he didn't ask for because of my post.
As far as goin into battle, I will opt for doin it from my front porch.
