FA accuracy
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:26:17 AM »
I just got my 454 back from FA yesterday, and they did a great job. When I bought the gun it had a ported 7 1/2" barrel. I had the ports cut off, with a semi deep inverted crown. That left me with 5 5/8".  I loaded my favorite indoor load.....a 250 laser cast bullet ( bought at Cabela's ) over 2 grains of Trail Boss. Yes, 2 grains. I set up a target 25 feet away, then shot two rounds ( all I made up )  then went over to have a look. I knew both rounds hit the target, because the board rattled each time, but only saw one bullet sticking half way out. I got a pair of pliers and pulled the bullet out, and what did I see ? You guess it, the other bullet was right underneath. Was that a lucky shot ? Maybe, but my 454 sure looks pretty, and it doesn't seem to shoot so bad either : )

Well, I guess it goes without saying you were anxious to shoot! Careful with that. I saw your gun pics last night.  The octagon/ivory micarat combo looks great. And I'm sure it has a natural balance. Congrats on a fine lookin' revolver!

Hey Benny,

Thanks for the nice words. I thought about getting the barrel cut down for some time now, and finally went ahead with it. Glad that I did. It's a nice early 454 made in 1988 I believe. Actions smooth as butter.
