When I had mine it liked the 55 grainers but your's might have to tell you which one with some range tests. Good luck on the shooting.

Depends, if its for paper puching or Hunting. For hunting I use Hornady's 55gr V-max. Or Rem 55gr Sp's. For paper punching I use 50gr Remmy's Fmj's, or sierra's 52gr HPBT.

I use 55 grain Hornady and Reminton bullets in mine with adequate results.  I can typically expect 10 shot strings anywhere from 2.0 to 2.5 inches at 100 yards.  Have equally good results with either H-335 (what I usualy use) and Varget.

My 14 inch 223 barrel shoots 40 gr  Hornady v-max better than any other bullet that I have tried. It does pretty well with the 55 gr Hornadys but the 40 gr do the best for group shooting. They do a job on the varments too.

I shoot the 45 JHP from Remington out of mine as well as the Federal Green lead free stuff. (some places are no lead)
Both work well for varmints.

In my 14" 223, I can hold about a 1 1/2in group, and almost any bullet I've tried has done that.  I'm more accurate with my heavy varmint rifle in 223 so bullet choice gets picky but thats for .2 vs .4 accuracy.  For the contender, just my experience, I like the 52gr match kings, Bergers work great too but are pricey, and can't go wrong with a V-Max.  Heck, thinking about it, the 45gr blitzkings did the best all-around performance on game and paper.  I like to use either H335 or Varget.

I shoot the Hornady 50 SSPSP from my Super 14”at a velocity of 2940 fps...  Ain’t sure that bullet is available any more, Might have been replaced by the 50 V-Max…

From my 16” barrel I shoot the 40 V-Max at a velocity of 3299 fps…

I use H-335 or WC-844.  I prefer the WC-844 with the 40 grainer…

But, I do believe WC-844 and H-335 are very close the same with WC-844 being about a grain slower…

H-335 has been my choice with the 223, 7-30, and the 30-30 in the Contender handgun barrels…

Good-luck…BCB
