Largest caliber in a H&R....
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:09:53 PM »
What is the largest caliber that you guys know of being used in these single shooters?  I just bought a Buffalo Classic and am thinking of adding an additional barrel, what calibers have been rebored to larger calibers with success?  .DT

The 500S&W is the largest factory offering in a Handi.

As far as I know the .500 S&W and the .499HE are as big as a factory barrel has been chambered for or re-chambered to I should say in the case of the .499HE.
There are some that are doing wild things with stubs and custom barrels like the 12ga FH.
Read about it in these threads.

12 bore in rifled and 10 bore in smooth. Wish the 10 was offered rifled and a elephant gun would be in everyones grasp. So I guess you answer would be 73caliber in 12 and 78caliber with the 10

Thanks for the info, I've now officially lost interest as I found a thread discussing the prices of rebore rates and I'm too cheap for that  ;D Though I'm soon to add a factory caliber barrel to my rifle, I'm just undeceided at the moment as to which one.    .DT

I'd like a long chambered .577 Snider to be able to use full length 24 ga. brass.
As the racer said, " all it takes is cubic dollars".

12GaFH, 73 cal IS a rifle...a very BIG rifle...20Ga IS a .620 cal... Ed Hubel has a .585 cal that will punify the Snider...  ;D ;)...it is a stub barreled object de'Art.  They are ALL rifles, just not FACTORY available.  Ed also has 10Ga and 8Ga's on the NEF frame.

Those are mind blowing thing's Ed is doing with the NEF frame...SAFELY.

Check out Accurate Arms, Big Bore, 12GaFH thread.

Some require cubic dollars but most...except for the dies and brass costs...are relatively inexpensive to do...the cost of the NEF, a rechamber...a muzzle brake...much less than you'd expect.

I'd much rather have an 8GA if facing a PO'ed bear, buff or T-Rex...one shot and it will roll the beasty over, skin it, cut it into steaks and BBQ it...all you need is a fork, plate and chair....Hahahahahahaha

Email Richard at Ranger Rick's, he's provided data for me before,  I have KDM's(they're out of business) data for the Encore pistol, they only listed Lil'gun, PM me if you want it, it's listed as a 600gr tho, not 610gr
