when does the sabot open???
« on: November 30, 2003, 09:12:31 AM »
Can anyone tell me when the petals of the sabot open after leaving the barrel? Here's my problem; I need a longer ramrod for my encore. it will stick out past the barrel about 1 1/2 inches. I was thinking  about an xs sights rod with the folding handle( i think knight markets them under their name). My question is: will the petals of the sabot contact the rod? I do find my sabots piled neatly 25 yds down range. any input is greatly appreciated.
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

I've used "too-long" ramrods with my Encore-- with melted "T-Handles" as the result.

A range rod is a better option.

upnorth,
I'll bet you that new ramrod could be custom trimmed to the exact length you're looking for.  If you tried asking before ordering the rod, they might cut and tap the rod for you. Randy brings up a good point.  Muzzle blast is not something you need to deal with.  Everyone at the range uses a good stout Range Rod with a muzzle protector attached (most of them made by themselves).
