Sorry Tm, but I don't relate thousands of gallons of oil dumping into the gulf with homicide, bank robberies, and stolen cars. There will be plenty of time to investigate after BP plugs the hole. Like I said it pretty easy to sling mud from the sidelines.

I'm not apologizing for oil corporations at all. They do drill and extract oil so I can heat my home, have electricity, and drive my car. I kind of think we need oil, and we need oil companies. After all there really isn't a viable option yet.
I'm just not going to jump on the band wagon and place all the blame on BP or any for that fact, until the truth comes out what really did happen. In fact right now I'm blaming the environmentalists more than BP.

  ..But of course the leftist/progressives who want drilling stopped and stupid Cap & Trade laws enacted;

1) Do not heat their homes
2) Have only tiny homes which can be heated with only 200 BTUs a year.
3) Never use limousines, sports cars or any gas-guzzlers
4) Never fly on fuel sucking jet planes, especially not private ones.
5) Use only 1 sheet of toilet paper at a time.
6) Never use carbon emitting lawn mowers etc on their home grounds
    Of course one could go on and on...but we all know liberal/progressives are natural liars..without consciences.

I actually agree with  TM on one point..Once the oil is contained and the shores protected, the actual cause should be investigated.
   ..But it should be investigated by an organization reckognized for honesty and integrity; not by a bunch of party hacks appointed by the Chicago mob..the Obama administration.

Probably BP as with other oil companies, would rather drill on land, in such places as ANWR or at least in shallow water...but the enviro-whackos fought against it. They should shoulder some of the blame also, but rest assured, the liberal, agenda driven media won't hold the greenies' feet to the fire..

IG, of course the EPA and the environmentalists never make bad decisions or do any thing wrong in the medias eyes. They are saving the planet, and us from ourselves. Its only those evil corporations and business's that do everything wrong.

Pretty soon the mountain of regulations the EPA wrights will be so high oil companies will not be able to drill. Or drilling, will be so costly the average wage earner won't be able to afford gas for his lawn mower, and that is exactly what the environmentalists want.
They will do everything they can to find the least little thing BP did wrong, and they will turn mole hills into mountains.

I see this whole thing as good or bad judgement, and greed. The platform was fairly experimental, yet considered cutting edge. With so much oil available to oil companies on LAND, I consider it very bad judgement on the part of oil companies, and their greed, BUT! Am fully aware of governmental restrictions imposed not only by Democrats, but Republicans also.
I have seen some posts that simply infer, or state: Accidents happen.
I would wonder if these same people would have the courage to say :"accidents happen" while in a crowd of Louisiana folks that have lost, or are losing their generations old way of life? Most likely not. I am several hundred miles from all this, but was there several times a week for years, and some here are a couple thousand miles away from this. These folks THINK they understand, but they have not a clue what this is doing to thousands of lives on the Gulf Coast. They can only imagine, and that too is their "imagination".
In many ways TM7 is (gulp) right. Do you leave your camp fire burning when you break camp? Do you throw your trash down in the woods, and along trails? Do you shoot game and leave it lay, or out of season? Do you change you oil and dump it in an area where it will get into a water way? If the answer is no, then YOU ARE AN ENVIRONMENTALIST. Most here NEVER check the campaign contributions of their "lessor of two evils" candidates and realize they are supported by big oil companies. With the acceptance of that oil money there is an under the table agreement that they will "look the other way" when the oil company "skips over regs" to make a FASTER BUCK. Then, next election they can make a BIGGER CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION.
Everyone here is guilty in one way or the other, like it or not.

We have about a a 200 year supply of oil on Federal land.  Most are national forests, national grasslands, and most out west.  The feds won't let anyone drill out there.  This deep water drilling is about 100 miles offshore, thus out of US territorial waters.  However, the leak does affect our shore.  Obama knew about this from day 1 and should have mobilised clean up equipment and crews along the gulf coast to be ready.  Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida all have Republican governors.  Obama is still playing politics as usual.  He doesn't know how to lead, only how to campaign and destroy his enemies.  Berms could have been dredged ahead of time.  Hay and equipment could have been mobilized.  Why hasn't anyone yelled and screamed about this.  This is his Katrina, and it is can be much worse.  75% of the nations shrimp and 25% of the nations fish come from the Gulf.

  TM;
   I am not applying "absolutes" at all. If the big mouthes involved in the "enviromentalist" movement, such as Barack Hussein Obama, AL Gore, John Kerrey, Barbra Streisand and another 2,000 or so whiners of the kind were living in small, 2-3 bdrm ranch houses, not flying on private jets, eschewing limousines and driving only the small, econobox cars they insist we use, that would help their credibility.
  Instead each of those mentioned live in mansions (often 2-3 or more), ride in big limos, have vast grounds which require extensive use of polluting grounds equipment etc. Must I ask if they use just  1 segment of toilet paper, as they or their friends insist we do ?

      One important lesson the military teaches;  Do not ask someone else to do something you are unwilling to do yourself ! As far as I and many others are concerned, that places a decent corporal well above the characters listed above !

  I guess it just boils down to "walk the walk" ...or..." I very much like to SEE a good sermon , along with listening to one".

   BTW: As a hunter/sportsman who lives "out there", I am a "conservationist"...I reject the term "environmentalist", because it engenders too many of the negative, and selfish ideas shared by those listed directly above.

TM, you are right about one thing hunters and fisherman are some of the best environmentalists there are. Just not the extreme wacko type that dictates and mandates stupid regulations that drive companies from this country into other countries. We hardly produce or make anything in this country anymore. All we do is buy from countries like China.
    When did you ever see a group of hunters or fisherman complaining to the EPA to have clearing brush, or trimming trees in forests stopped? Which has led to uncontrollable forest fires in California and other places.  Or when have hunters and fisherman ever complained about building more oil refineries.  How about environmentalists mandate to do away with the incandescent light bulb. Replacing it with a contraption that if broken releases mercury vapors into your home.
Clean air, water, and reforestation are all worthy causes, but they all fall victim to the wackos that cry global warming.
How about the environmentalists most favored piece of legislation, the global carbon tax to be administered by the UN. The intrusive regulations from this will have little or no  actual environmental benefit. Could they be just a bunch of global redistributionist’s?  I bet there are all kinds of hunters and fisherman that want to see a carbon tax.  I think their agenda is clear and it has nothing to do with the environment.

As much as you might like to think oil companies like to drill in a mile of water. Extreme deep water drilling is not the preferred choice by oil companies, but all the protests, lawsuits, and lies about onshore and shallow water drilling have locked up safer areas.
Just look at the environmentalists that have stopped the drilling in ANWAR. The footprint there would be comparable to a postage stamp on a football field.  The EPA is also blocking oil development in the National Petroleum, Reserve in Alaska. The NPR-A has been estimated to hold 12 billion barrels of oil and 73 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, but we can’t get it because of the environmental wacko’s lies.  I doubt there are many hunters or fisherman that are against drilling there. If oil companies can't drill on land or in shallow water where are they supposed to get oil and gas from that this country needs. Oh, thats right we will just buy it from the middle east. It is such a stable area surely we can count on getting our oil from there.
When talking about hunters and fisherman being environmentalists, this type does not compare with the radical environmentalism that is destroying this country in many ways.

I don't know what else you guys want to call this, but it was an unintended accident. As long as there are humans involved there will be accidents, and yes accidents happen. Just because this one affects thousands of people lives in a very bad way, and it was a big one, are we going to call it something besides an accident? As long as man is on earth accidents will happen. That is a fact that no human will ever change.
