un-happy with the new ultra varmint in .223
« on: June 09, 2010, 01:57:13 PM »
it came in today and it was loose in the box.  it was not supported correctly and this caused
the blueing to get rubbed off the barrel from the crown out to 2".... and the lock and trigger
lock plate beat the hell out of the barrel and receiver >:(  and to beat all... not one scratch
or dent or signs of handling are on the outside of the box.........

the barrel won't even come close to a lock-up with the forend removed !!!!  >:( >:(

the barrel release lever stays down when the barrel should be locked up, i can pop it open with
slight effort.... >:( >:( >:(

no need for any suggestions !!!! i can fix these things... but i think i want another one !!! ;D

it turned itself around and went back to the factory !!!!

i really don't care if the shipper caused the destruction to the barrel and receiver....

the fitting is what PMFO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that John, just out of curiosity, when was it made? Early Ilion made firearms had a problem with packing.

complete new rifle...cba 141XXX
it had the plastic..handigrip on it, with a recoil pad ??, for a .223?? :P
what happened to the ultra scope rails ?? its got the basic rail.
best of all it did have a nice blue job !!!! ashame its screwed tho...

i think my youngest grandson (4) could have fitted it together better
i have never seen a clean bore before on a new handi....
no signs of flash, smell or residue... don't think it was test fired.

i know if it was, it would have popped open !!!
i opened it by bumping the muzzle when it appeared to be locked up hard !!

Hopefully just a screw up, possibly done by the distributor, not putting it back in the box properly after inspection. The Ultra rail was discontinued years ago, 2007-08, it's mentioned in the FAQs, been there a long time.

There's no excuse for poor fit, was it made in Ilion or Gardner? I suspect there were a lot of bad firearms shipped by Gardner in their final days.  :-\

The ultra rail was discontinued by Dec '07.

Welcome Ron! ;) One advantage of the 308 Survivor is it's a bull barrel, the only H&R 308 rifle that's made that way, I have one with camo laminated stock set, I prefer them a lot over the pallet wood stocks, they're a bit heavier, but they're also checkered, another plus. The longer Ultra rail has been discontinued, so don't count on that any more. :-\

distributor, not dealer... i know him very well. we just talked about it, 15 minutes ago..
and it was logged by scanning the id sticker on the box.... never opened.
and he did mention something was loose inside and reported to the factory shipping dept.

The new box design is poor. I recently bought a new 22-250 and the last inch of the muzzle bluing was worn.

i just picked up my new 3030 week ago;  same thing on bluing-two inches from crown worn off. also, fore end so tight i had to take a mallet to remove. upon inspection, found the lug hole is drilled half a hole off! will fix myself but am not happy  john
