Cast Bullets for 375 JDJ and 378 GNR
« on: May 26, 2010, 06:05:29 AM »
Picked up a 375 JDJ a few months back... Snagged a 378 GNR yesterday..  Any of you guys shooting cast bullets in these things?  I figure a good hard cast with a gas check might be fun..  Thought I'd feel out the forum before I go to Veral and see what he thinks...  Cast bullets may be a bad thing for the brake on the 378 GNR....

I can't respond to the calibers specific. But, I do shoot a lot of Leadhead bullets in my .375SM. They shoot great and very accurately. They may be a good choice for you as well. I'd opt not to shoot them through a brake though, I long ago tired of the bits hitting me in the face. Never had a serious problem, and I wear safety glasses shooting, but debris flying at my eyes causes me to seek other ways of doing whatever it is I'm doing.

I had pretty good luck with an NEI mold for my DW .375sm. When Walt was alive, I asked him to shorten a 250gr mold, and turn the bottom grease groove into the gas check. Almost an exact copy of the 220gr Hornady bullet. Comes out at 217-218gr. My heavier bullet is a 240gr LBT mold. Both shoot pretty good. Not to sure about shooting them with a compensator though. gypsyman
