cast bullets
« on: April 15, 2010, 12:55:11 PM »
Dose anyone shoot cast bullets with a factory barrel. I know it is not recommended by the factory but neither is shooting reloads at all and most people do with out problem. If the barrel is cleaned every 200 to 300 rounds would leading be a problem.      Thanks Clem

I shoot some 175g lswc in my 40's. Maybe it is the velocities I shoot at but have no problems. I shoot on my own pastures and tend to shoot max about 50 rounds with each gun before cleaning. Not sure if most people do it or are successful with it. Just my personal experience.

I know the early generation Glocks had case support issues but not the newer ones.  I have shot many cast bullets w/o issue ...... then again I do not load them to the max.

Bob why would case support have anything to do with cast bullets? I have one of the first g 19s in country and was thinking of casting for it and my ruger .44 . I think the support issue is with some .40s but  mine is a 9mm. Just trying to figure it all out. I do know some guys switch out the barrels for cast but is it really needed? Thanks in advance. I USED to shoot lead through my 9mm baby Glock. 50 rounds then clean it, until one day, KA-BOOM! It felt like my hand was blown apart. It did some self disassembly but for the most part was OK. Sent it back to Glock, they said it wasn't broken. So I bought a KKM barrel for it to shoot lead with. I had a hard time not flinching when I fired it after that so I sold it. I don't shoot lead through my other Glocks EVER! :o

No problem at all with properly loaded ammo.
my 19 has been eating them for 20+ years.
One of those rumors started by another gun company
to try and degrade Glocks popularity.

Hi all new to the form and to Glocks, I bought a 1st Gen Model 22 about 8 Months ago, I did a lot of learning, The 1st Gen 40 S&W being a high pressure round with the Polygonal barrel and unsupported barrel, make it some what unique , My experience has been to buy the Redding G-RX Die, to return cases to a reloadable size, My Lyman dies would not size any of the brass from my 40 without shaving the unsupported side, I do not shoot cast in my gun, From the reading I have done, it seems the Glock ka-booms comes from a combination of Glocked brass, swelled at the base, weakening of the brass, and an increase in the already high pressure round, by modest leading, many shoot cast in Glocks with no problem, however I am a firm believer in Murphy’s Law. I cast for everything I shoot except the Glock, I feel the Berry plated bullets are cheaper than a new gun if the above is true.
