16" barrels

Hey all,

  Thinking of getting a couple barrels for the boys to start with most likey a 223 and a 30/30 or 7/30W, I am thinking of 16" barrels so I am wondering how they shoot?  and how the 7/30 and the 30/30 compare in the 16" barrels?

I have a carbine set up with a 16" 223 and it shoots fine.
Here is a picture of just how small it is next to a CZ 527 American and a Remington 700 SPS, both in 223 also.

I too have the .223 in 16" and it is sweet.  I find it likes 40gr bullets much better than 55 or 60s.   I also have a 16" .22 and a 23" 7-30 also that is a good shooter.  My kids shoot the .22 alot.  I like that they can only shoot one round at a time.  It makes them take their time before they pull the trigger.  They are comfortable with the Contender so it wont be a big deal to move them up to a deer round when they are ready as they will already know the gun and be comfortable shooting it.  Aint Contenders Great!  ;D

About to order a MGM .223 Rem carbine barrel.
I make oil & mcwoodduck What is the twist rate of the .223 barrels?

Don't know.
I bought it here on GBO for a meduim game hunt.  Went to the range with a few different rounds and sighted it in with 55 grainers from Hornady.  They worked and I was off to go hunting in the hills and washes of Az.

16-1/4" 45-70 gov with a break in a thumb hole boyd stock lam has less recoil than my 270win in a pro hunter barrel
