DNRE Offers State-Owned Land for Sale by AuctionContact: Mary Dettloff 517-335-3014
Agency: Natural Resources and Environment
June 10, 2010More than 60 parcels of state-owned land in 12 counties are being offered for sale by sealed bid auction beginning today (June 9) by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
Information on the auction -- and on other land available for purchase -- including photos, property descriptions, terms and conditions, forms and information on how to submit a bid is available at:
www.mi.gov/landforsale. Property information and bid forms are also available upon request to the Real Estate Services Section, P.O. Box 30448, Lansing, MI 48909-7948, or by calling 517-373-1240.
Most of the auction properties are in Northern Lower Peninsula, with a few in the Upper Peninsula. Many are near snowmobile trails, lakes and rivers. Among the properties being sold are several parcels with frontage on the Sturgeon and Black Rivers in Cheboygan County and forested tracts in several counties. There are numerous parcels near I-75, the Straits of Mackinac and Burt, Mullett, Higgins and Houghton lakes. Offered also are parcels near Diamond Lake in Newaygo County.
Highlights of the properties offered for sale include:
Arenac County - A paved lot at an intersection in downtown Standish, and a 10-acre parcel with county road frontage adjacent to the Rifle River Boat Access Site in Clayton Township.
Cheboygan County - Forested parcels of various sizes, with streams, ponds and wetland features. Several are near I-75, Burt Lake, Mullett Lake and the Straits of Mackinac. Smaller parcels include subdivision lots near the North Central State Trail, a significant recreational feature in Northern Lower Peninsula; two lots have frontage on the scenic Sturgeon River, a designated Blue Ribbon Trout Stream. Some lots are offered at less than $1000.
Also available are five parcels near the Pigeon River Country State Forest, south of Onaway, including two parcels with extensive frontage on the Black River, a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream. These parcels are south of Black Lake, and within the habitat area of Michigan's free ranging elk herd. They will be sold subject to development restrictions that protect the natural resource features but allow for recreational uses.
Chippewa County - A 200-acre tract of well-wooded forest land in Pickford Township, within 15 minutes of I-75. On Drummond Island, a one acre parcel on Old Ferry Drive, with utilities, within walking distance to Lake Huron, and approximately one mile from the ferry dock.
Crawford County - Numerous acreage parcels, and subdivision lots, many near Hartwick Pines State Park, the Manistee and Au Sable rivers and near the junction of I-75 and Highway 127 at Higgins Lake. The parcels offer a mix of lands with frontage on county roads and parcels in more secluded settings.
Dickinson County - A three-acre parcel in Sagola Township with frontage on two county roads.
Emmet County - A 76-acre parcel in Bliss Township containing rolling, well-wooded terrain with small creeks and hardwood forest, located near Pellston and Mackinaw City, south of Wilderness State Park.
Kalkaska County - A five-acre industrial site located in Kalkaska and two rural properties in Excelsior Township.
Montmorency County - Two parcels, including a 1.5-acre cabin site just north of Lewiston and a wooded corner lot near Long Lake just north of Avalon Lake in Montmorency Township.
Newaygo County - Five parcels, approximately 2.5 acres each, near Diamond Lake, six miles northwest of White Cloud, within the Huron-Manistee National Forest.
Presque Isle County - Several wooded parcels 32 to 76 acres in size near Rogers City, Alpena and Millersburg, some suited for hunting camps or family retreats, and three subdivision lots in the same area. Many of these parcels are near public boating access sites, snowmobile trails, rail-trail corridors and quality fishing waters.
Roscommon County - A 20-acre parcel in Markey Township, at the intersection of North Flint and School roads, halfway between Higgins Lake and Houghton Lake with good access to US 127 and I-75.
Saginaw County - A 20-acre parcel in Chapin Township with county road frontage in a rural location only minutes from large tracts of state-owned land available for hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and other outdoor opportunities in the Gratiot-Saginaw, Maple River, or Shiawassee River state game areas.
In several of the counties a number of the properties are not easily accessible by the general public. Therefore they are being offered for sale, with the proceeds used to acquire replacement lands of greater recreational potential for the public.
Bids on the parcels must be postmarked by Monday, Aug. 2, 2010. The bid opening will be Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the DNRE offices in Lansing.
More information about these auction parcels can be found at
www.mi.gov/landforsale under "Land Auction."
Additional parcels are available for immediate purchase in the following counties: Alpena, Baraga, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Charlevoix, Chippewa, Clare, Dickinson, Gladwin, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Kalamazoo, Lake, Leelanau, Livingston, Mackinac, Macomb, Manistee, Marquette, Missaukee, Montcalm, Oakland, Oceana, Ontonagon, St. Clair, Van Buren, Washtenaw, and Wexford. These parcels were previously offered by sealed bid auction and not sold. Information on these parcels is posted at:
www.mi.gov/landforsale under "View Land for Sale Now."
The auction is part of the DNRE's Land Consolidation Strategy, an on-going review of all state-owned land that is outside the boundaries of a state park, forest, game area, or recreation area.
Proceeds from the sale of these surplus state-owned parcels go into a fund from which the DNRE can purchase additional recreational land. The proceeds from the sales do not go into the state's General Fund.
Since 2004, the DNRE has reviewed state-owned land in all 83 Michigan counties to determine which parcels would be disposed of and which would be retained. These sale parcels are outside of project boundaries for all state parks, recreation areas, state game and wildlife areas, and state forests.
The state reserves aboriginal antiquities and may reserve mineral rights on the parcels being sold. The DNRE recommends all purchasers do their own research as to suitability of the parcel for the purpose intended, and conduct a personal inspection of the desired parcels whenever possible. The DNRE makes no representation or claim as to fitness for purpose, access, condition or restrictions.
