Scope Base ? for a Savage Mdl 11
« on: July 05, 2010, 07:03:15 AM »
I have a Savage model 11 in .22-250.  I am wanting to put a STEEL one Piece scope base on it.  BassPro has a one piece base which the rings are attached to it already.  But in Savage is states the end must be round...However, I will put any type on it.  I am ignorant on most rifle topics and have found great information on this site...Thanks.

Depending on how old your Savage is, it will either have a "flat" rear on the receiver top, or a round one. You will see mounts described as "round rear" or "flat rear" to designate which era of Savage receiver they fit. The "round rear" is the current model Savage receiver, and is likely the one you need?

I have Warne brand 1 piece bases on 2 of my Savage rifles. These are the "tactical" base and ring sets offered by Warne. They are made of steel and are of very good quality. I'm using one in a "0 MOA" configuration, and one is a "20 MOA" base. If you're going to shoot real long range, say 600 yards and farther out, get the 20 MOA base. If you're going to only shoot 500 yards and closer, the 0 MOA base should be fine. The difference is the 20 MOA base is canted, to add additional elevation to your scope for distance shooting.

I hope that answered your question?
