Single Shot wobble

I'm checking out the Rossi single shot rifle in 357 mag.  Should i be concerned about the side to side wobble of the reciever/barrel in both locked up and in open breech position?  The two brand new Rossi rifles I have seen both do this.  Thanks

If it is loose with it closed you need to shim the barrel at the underlug to tighten it up.
It's not really a big deal when it's opened, it's more of an annoyance. Does the gun have wood or synthetic stocks on it?
Check out the FAQ's link in the H&R centerfire section. There is a section on barrel fitting for the novice. Some very good info. that will help you.

Like Sapnky said, it is normal to have play in it when opened, it is not proper to have any play in it when it is closed.  Larry

Thanks guys, the two I handled I was able to twist and move when locked up.  When in open position very loose on both.

Got on in 22-250 that was loose. If you remove the forend you will find a metal cap that is crewed to it. Take the one screw out and place a small piece of shim material such as rubber and then screw it back on. It puts pressure against the forend and receiver and will tighten it up. Dont know if the fit off the forend was bad from the manufacturing or due to the wood it may swell and contract with weather change but the rubber should be able to flex with those changes. Mine has worked fine since.

 From my reading of the OP it sounds like these were brand new at sporting goods stores. I wouldn't buy something new that I had to end up fixing with a shim.
