"DEFENDER 38" - NIB, DOM 5/8/1944
« on: October 21, 2010, 02:49:56 PM »
A Dealer friend of mine, picked this up for me at a gun show.  It's a 3rd Variation (1943-44).  This one not only came with the box, but also with the instruction sheet and an inspection tag, dated May 8, 1944 (this is the first of these that I've seen.)

That's cool Jim, thanks! ;)  The pics are too big, they need to be reduced in size to post multiples in one post due to the max limit of 2048kb for attaching pics, see How to Post Pics in one of the classified forums for alternatives.

Old Fart - it appears to be unfired.  I believe H&R did test fire at the factory - but there is no signs on the cylinder or recoil shield that there was ANY firing - cylinders bores are clear and clean - barrel bore is pristine and mirror like...about as close to 'unfired' as you can get.

Tim - I just discovered that I could upload pics from my computer - I've got to work on reducing the size - but so far haven't had any success with my onboard/camera combo software.  I'm using pics from my files that were taken with a 10 Megapixel camera set to the highest definition - for clarity and inclusion of all details.  I'm thinking that part of the problem - but I can't change stuff around without another onboard editing software package - I'll keep looking around.  It's funny that some nights I can upload two or three and others none - it must have something to do with available bandwidth in my area???????
I'll be darn - it let me do two at a time this afternoon!!!!

The sticky on pic posting has a link to freeware to resize photos, also a free photo hosting site so you can post as many pics as you want.  ;)

Any British proof marks on it?
H&R made a bunch of those for
British Home Guard Personel.
A British Broad-Arrow should
increase the Value considerably.I
Like the shape of the front sight on those.

No British proofs on this one.  I do have an H&R "BOBBIE" with London Metro police markings and an H&R Mark I
37mm Flare gun/tear gas projector - hinged frame, shotgun stocked - that is covered with British Broadarrow proofs and some unit markings.
I hadn't heard, before your posting, that the Brits used the Defender 38s for Home Guard...that's good info to have.  Any sites to go to for more info?
