I believe North Carolina and Pennsylvania have been noted to have the biggest bears.

The most bears would be in British Columbia and they too get some good size blackbears! However, Saskatuwan Canada also has been known to produce large bears and multi-colored bears like the blondes, cinnimon, two-tone chestnut and black etc.

Big bears in NC tend to live near chicken and pork producers.

I would love to find a farmer who wanted one killed so it would stay out of his corn.

I think 733lbs is the record for pa.  Last year a guy shot a estimated 650 lbs bear with 44 magnum handgun.  This year an archery hunter took a 707 lbs bear, but he is now in a lot of trouble for baiting it, I'll post a link.  We do also have an overabundance,  in tioga county I saw more bear during bear season than deer.   I believe lycoming usually has a huge bear harvest every year also.

I grew up in eastern NC.  Never hunted bears.  It was a protected animal when I was a child.  I use to follow what we called bear tracks all the time playing.  I never even saw a bear,  but now they have a hunting season near where I played in the woods and I understand they kill some rather large animals.  (Craven County)

Craven, Hyde and Pamlico counties are known for big bears.
When I would first drive to the farm.  I noticed these roads into the corn with a huge circle cut out.  It was large enough for me to drive my Jeep in and the circle at the end I was able to turn around.  I asked the farmer why he cut them in.  He said it was from the bears.  They strech out thier arms and start scooping up corn.  When the bear can no longer push the corn any further they sit down and eat it and roll around collecting more till they are full.
The farmer asked if I would come back and hunt a bear and bring a couple friends.  The bear was big enough to make a path way wider than my car and push the corn in 15 to 20 yards.  It scared me to try to hunt it with a 308 Win.
With my uncle living there now I may be able to hire him to scout for me for this upcoming season.

I hunt there in hyde. Killed a 500# est. last year. Another club member got a 640#weighed. Duck your .308 will work. I use "06 180 gr. Hit him right -no problemo. It is a different topography than most have hunted so go prepared. Lotsa bears. Split season. Nice game biologist who will want to "tooth" your bruin and send you a nice hat later. good luck.

Oh I know the 308 will work now.
But this was when i was in College and wondered how big of a bear could make a hole in the Corn as wide as my jeep.
Also this was on the heels of my Cousin telling a story of shooting a bear in the head with a 35 rem and then getting the bear into the station wagon to take it back to the house to gut and skin.  Having the bear wake up and it became a 3 stooges movie. of trying to get out of the car.

I was on another forum and mentioned that in WI their was a bear killed that tipped the scales at over 700lbs , and he basically said I was full of BS and a 700lbs would be a new world record :o, he said he got a 500lbser with his bow, so he supposedly was not new to hunting bear. Its amazing how ignorant some people can be, search on the web (instead of opening your trap) and you can find how big bear can get.
