Savage 93 left bolt 22Mag?
« on: June 18, 2010, 02:09:13 PM »
I've found a used Savage lefty bolt 22 Mag I'm interested in.  It is a clone of the current 93GL on thier site without the accutrigger and with a hardwood stock with a skinny barrel.

Are these rifles any good?  I've been looking for a cheap 22 Hornet and have given up.  They are rare and never cheap in Canada.

The Savage site shows a heavy barrel Varmint model in the 93 17HMR lefty but not the 22 Mag.  Did they ever make a heavy barrel 22 Mag lefty?

I really can't answer most of your questions but I wouldn't let the lack of an Accutrigger stop me from considering that gun.  I bought my son a lefty Mark II a with the accutrigger - it works ok but especially for his smaller hands, he sometimes doesn't pull it straight back, then there is a click but no firing. Have to recock to fire. I do it on that gun too now and then. I find it a bit annoying and overall don't feel the accutrigger adds much to that gun for our uses. Overall its a nice little 22lr. If the basics of the rest of the gun look good to you, it might be worth grabbing.

You might want to email Savage and see what answers they can give you for the rest of your questions.

Thanks,

Folks on the rimfire forum have convinced me that the 22 Mag doesn't suit my needs.

I'm going to look for a nice older Marlin 39A and stay with 22LR.
