Suggestions on a .223 Bolt Action Rifle
« on: June 15, 2010, 02:17:26 PM »
Folks,

I'd like an inexpensive rifle in .223 Rem with a fast twist for heavy bullets, and iron sights. What do you suggest?

Mahalo, Chaps

I like the Cz 527 line.
The 527 Carbine, LUX, or the FS come with iron sights.
The small action and magizine feed make them easy to load.
I can not think of another rifle that comes with iron sights.  Well Sako does make some models but you said cheap
Howa / Vanguard
Savage 110 / edge
Remington.
Ruger M77 R I with the full stock comes with factory sighs bit I don't think that one comes in 223.
I have Four 223 rifles.
An AR, M700 SPS, Cz 527, and a Carbine Kit for the T/C.
the M700 is a big heavy varmint rifle.  the action is 308 based and the little 223's are hard to line up right quickly.
the Cz is no bigger than my 22 hornet and with the mag feed is easy to load and unload and quickly.
The M1 American comes with a 3 or 4 round flush fit mag.
I bought 3 extended 5 round mags for mine and they work great and are not as awkard as I thought they would be.

Stevens, Savage or Edge, the CZ does not qualify as inexpensive.  Larry

But those do not come with Sights.
Adding sights puts you closer to the cost of a CZ.
I think the carbine I saw when in Nv last month was in the low 500's.
Granted that is a lot of sights for the 300 edge but it does move them closer.

Appreciate the feedback so far, thanks!

I've been looking at the CZ Carbine per mcwoodduck, and it seems like the mini-mauser action makes for a light, fast handling, and solid action which for .223 is perfect. I guess Remington,Interarms, Charles Daly, and even Ruger (?) have made mini-mauser rifles in .223.

The sights requirement is personal bias. I plan to put a scope on it, but I like to have a backup just in case.

The only fast twist 223 with sights I know of is a Tikka.  A Tikka T-3 lite is around $500-550.  They have two twist rates for the 223, they are 1-12 and 1-8.  Also sights are an option so I'm sure it will cost a bit more.  But for around 6 bills you can get a 223 rifle with a fast twist, open sights, a moa guarentee and a single set trigger.    Dave

I have a cz 527, that I simply love, under field conditions(sitting with shooting sticks,) I get bored shooting golf ball targets at 150yds. It is even sweeter off of a bench.  This is with LC08 brass, and 55 grain Nosler ballistic tips bullets and 25 grains of H335 .
