new rifle
« on: March 10, 2010, 09:38:10 AM »
I have been looking into getting a new rifle and have been thinking about an sps in 300 rum. I have never owned a model 700 before but remington is the only one who chambers the rum anymore. I know the stocks are junk on these but there are some nice looking laminated stocks at stockys for pretty reasonable. So any thoughts has anyone gotten one of the stocks from stockys?

Boyd's makes a nice laminate stock too for about $100.  My wife has a 700 SPS in 270 Win.  It still wears the flimsy composite stock that it came with because it shoots too well to mess with.

Nice. Those are about 80 dollars cheaper.

I don't mean to high-jack this thread but does a bdl style stock work with a sps. I have a SPS Varmint, and thought about replacing it with a hogue or a thumb hole boyd stock. BTW out of the box it shoots amazing, if they made the SPS stainless in the caliber I wanted, (260) I'd own 2-3 of them by now!

If your SPS has a floorplate, which I believe it does, then yes it will work with a BDL style stock.  BDL = hinged floorplate, ADL = blind mag.

I own a Remington 700 BDL 300 RUM Sendero and I can hardly call it junk. It slaps the ssnot out of you.  But on a good day at 100 it will shoot under a dime providing I do my part. lou
