What is it? Bama Bows say some of their bows are fastflight ready.

Where is that on the web page, I'm tired but I just couldn't find where Nate says that.

I gotta get me another one.

I've always stayed away from fast flight strings.  Sure they add some speed, but they also add noise to the bow.  I use all flemished strings and if you want a good and cheap place to get them check this guy out......

Nate also has bowstrings for his BamaBows http://www.bamabows.com/strings.html and that is the same bowstring that is on my Hunter model.  2-ply Handmade Flemish twist string with black serving.

The most quiet and smoothest longbow I have ever shot.

About 4 years ago I did a chronograph test of fastflight vs. B50 Flemish bowstrings. I used a Fox LB 54lb. the arrows were wooden Split Hex arrows from Bob Burton www.whisperingwindarrows.com they weighed just over 550 grains with 125gr field points. I got an average of 3fps faster arrow speed with the fast flight. I didn't notice any difference in point of impact, but the FF string was just a bit noisier. Today I don't worry whether the bow is FF compatable, if not I'm happy with B50. Hope this helps some or is interesting to some.

That helps as now I know that fastflight is a type of bow string.  I did not know what it was, I don't think that is anything that I am interested in at this time. Thanks for the info.

Even though I don't like fastflight strings, I do like bows that are fastflight capable.  The overlays make the tips stronger, Oh and a lot prettier..... ;)

Right, he says that with horn overlays on the tips, the bows are FF compatible.

I like Fastflite because it's less likely to get cut or break.

Glad we could help fast flight is a type of string, it's a low stretch string that won't stretch as much as a B50 string will. Since it doesn't stretch much it delivers more shock to a limb tip upon release. Be sure not to use a fast flight string on a bow not rated for it & if there's any question call the manufacturer.
I've had B50 strings stretch as much as 2" when they are new, & you will usually have to unstring the bow & twist the string tighter to take up the stretch. I've been known to switch from fast flight to B50 to get a bow a little more quiet. Usually it's not a long bow though, they are usually pretty quiet as is.

My local bow shop owner thinks FF string is for all traditional bows, I explained things to him and he admitted that he really knew nothing about traditional bows and their equipment.

Only order or buy your bow strings from a compitent traditional dealer like 3Rivers or some others that you can find on the Traditional Forum boards.  They know what you need, not something that may harm your bow.

I like the idea of the stronger tips stronger is usually a good thing. As far as using FF strings that will have to come with time. As I get more involved and shoot around some one with FF I will just have to wait to form an opinion.

You might let your local shop know that a good traditional bow that's not rated for fast flight can be destroyed by using fast flight. The FF string doesn't give when it's released & puts a lot more stress on the bow limbs.
None of the older Bear bows & most others from the 50s to the 70s (roughly) were rated for FF. It there were any doubt on my part I'd use B50 & be happy with it!

Frank even though he admits to knowing nothing about Traditional, I tried to explain that leaving his display model longbows and recurves strung is bad for them.  His response was, "It doesn't seem to hurt the compounds at all."

He just blows me off, and then when I found a great deal on my Easton Legacy 2020 well below his cost let alone his retail, then talks behind my back wondering why I don't buy my stuff from him.  ::)

He does know his modern compounds, but does not know squat about Traditional Longbows or Recurves.

Actually Cottonwood, I asked that very question to Norm Johnson who makes Blacktail bows & he told me as long as the bow isn't in a hot place, & gets shot a couple times each week, you probably risk damaging a fiberglass bow from stringing & unstringing it as much as leaving it strung. I've left glass bows strung for months, shooting them 3 or 4 times/week with no bad effects. Always use a bow stringer to string or unstring a recurve bow. A self bow or non heat treated bamboo bow such as the Howard Hill longbows shouldn't be left strung.
Ron King of Fox Bows told me much the same thing. Both these bowyers are well respected in the traditional bow industry.
If you feel better about it though I'd unstring using a stringer.
