mini 30 accuracy
« on: June 20, 2010, 06:46:03 PM »
i just got this mini30 a while back. it shoots ok with fiocchi factory ammo [3" @ 100m] but the first handload i put thru it shows lots of promise

now i'm working a faster powder 4198 and hoping to keep the same group size. lots of time until hunting season here in BC...

shooting was done @ 100m with a 3-9 japanese bushnell. 2 different days. and at the time i had only fired 12 of the handloads.

first group with H4198 yesterday. i should be able to tighten this one up some.  2200FPS ??

Nice grouping looks like you got a keeper.
Mine groups around 1 1/2- 1 1/4 but I haven't tried any bullets heavier than 130s.
I may have to give them 150s a go.

The ones I've owned wouldn't do better than 3"@100 with a scope mounted.

You may try playing with the magazine.
I have read posts on another forum about best accuracy shooting single shot with no magazine and next best with a 20 round magazine with only a few rounds in it.

I noticed its got the older style barrel on that one as in pre 580 series.  Try using some .308 diameter bullets.  On alot of the earlier mini 30's they barreled with .308 blanks.

I will have to try one of your loads.  The best mine would do was about 3" with factory ammo.  I loaded some rounds up with 28.5 grs. of Reloader #7 with the 123gr Hornady Soft Point .310 diameter bullet and I the group size down just under 2" at 100 yards. Actualy it was a little better. A 5 shot group would have 3 holes touching with the 4th an 5th shot opening up to about a 1 7/8 group size.   According to my Chrony the average velocity was 2450.    From what I here about 3" is the best with most factory stuff.
