birds and tomatoes

some bluejays have seems to like my 'maters. they like to peck hole in them, then move over  to another one and repeat. going to try tin pie plates and if that doesnot work than i am getting a pellet gun. anything else i can try????? >:(

Mocking birds will peck them to. Keeping Jays out of pecan trees is hard. They are real smart. They will fly out the back side of the tree and fly a hundred yards or so and then turn to what ever dirrection they need to go. They keep cover when they know you are after them.

A lady near here hangs a crow under her pecan trees, hanging upsidedown by one leg so it is highly visible all spread out. She said it has worked for crows for years. Don't know if it would work for J's. eddiegjr

My wife brought home a black mist net about 16X16 the other day.  It is sold for keeping birds away from trees and gardens.

As a kid I recall people putting a very thin loosely woven white cloth over cherry trees and plum trees.  Haven't seen it in 40 years.

Good ol fashion scarecrow. Usually I'm glad to have birds in my garden, because the robins eat the worms off my cabbages. Its pretty cool to watch them. They're real hunters. ;D But I don't get crows.

That should work, it works for Raspberries.

I don't have much trouble with birds but during the dry  years the tree rats can ruin  a lot of tomatoes.  Just like the birds they seem to take a bite or two and then move on th the next one.  As I live out in the sticks the 22 usually settles their hash.

Ah, most migrating birds are protected. You might get away with plugging a few with a pellet gun, but hanging one is kind of like advertising.
