A terrible thing to do but,

I know most would only do this as a last resort , but I got the Mid-Way sale paper yesterday they have the Ram-line Syntech 336 Rifle stocks on sale for $47.99. as to a terrible thing to do, this is only my opinion, but  to me it would be hard to replace a beautiful piece of wood with plastic.

I saw that too.  I have a 1952 336 that was butchered by someone in the past, needs lots of work to get back in shape.  I may just get one to play with while that project gets going.  DP

Hunt in a really harsh climate, and those plastic stocks don't look so bad. The boy and I were drop camped by aircraft for caribou in Alaska. Nylon tent, and a constant cold drizzeling rain the whole time. No heater for the tent so everything just kept getting wetter and wetter. The finish rubbed off the wood, the barrel channels were full of water, and rust was popping out everywhere.

I had always been a wood purist, but after that trip, I decided I needed a plastic stock or two too.

Walnut stocks are over rated, though so are synthetic. Neither has more advantages over the other. I have found I like guns any and all ways they come  ;D  I do not have any regrets over my Marlins that are press checkered birch, I don't care any extra for my smooth stocked walnut Marlins over my Marlin bolt in synthetic. But pissing matches are abundant over this topic  ::) .DT

I love a beautiful piece of walnut, but I've found myself in some pretty rough spots where I'm glad I didn't have to be watching my stock instead of watching for deer.

I wouldn't mind having a camo set myself.  I really wish they made some for the old style ruger 44 carbine.

I have used one. It was on the green and black 336 that brianscott12 posted pics of here. To me with green and black metal the only way to go is black syn.

That said, I don't care for them typically.

But now stainless and laminate... That gets my ol heart pumpin!! ;D

I have three Marlins (.30-30, .375 Win and .45-70) and wouldn't have any trouble replacing the wood stock with synthetic if  Ineeded a new one.

For the price, though, you can call wild West Guns and get a wood take off if that is your preference.
