Marlin 1894C???
« on: December 27, 2010, 06:42:36 AM »
Why can't I find a Marlin 1894C 357M/38SPL in the St. Charles, MO area?  I have been to all the big stores and called about 8 other shops.  Nobody has one.  I don't want to order it and mess with shipping and/or FFL fees.  That delays the process and I hate buying anything sight unseen.  I want to walk into a store, handle the firearm, work the action, fill out a form, hand over some cash, go home and shoot it.

Not enough supply and too much demand.  For some reason, Marlin has been perpetually behind demand with their production of the C's.  Don't give up the search.  They're worth the wait.

Dks,

I know you'll really enjoy it. I did mine. A good case could be made for one of those as a guys only rifle.

I ran 10 rounds thru it this morning.  I had some Winchester 130gr FMJ 38 Specials.  It had a hard time feeding these.  I hope with some break-in this will improve.  It's quite accurate and fun to shoot.  Recoil is next to nothing, and swings/shoulders like a dream.  I plan to hunt with 357 Mag 158gr JSP.  But I want to plink with 38 Specials.  Is there a particular factory load 38SPL that the 1894C likes most?

My 1894C likes UMC 130gr FMJs. The more you cycle it, the sooner
it will smooth out. I found that cycling the lever (empty) while
watching hunting shows helps.. that's my story....

I've been doing that too.  My wife thinks I'm nuts.  It appears to be getting better.  I really do not want to do any mods and prefer to just let it wear in.

The Wild West Happy Trigger is the best money you will ever spend on the gun, it will give you a 3 lb trigger pull and no creep or over travel. I rate it as the best mod to do before sights or scope. It's very easy to do and if no experience and with just a screwdriver and 15 minutes time you can have a beautiful shooting lever gun that will not ever have the Marlin floppy trigger or be a 6 lb trigger one day and 9 lb the next.

These are great rifles.  I have a pre-safety 1894C and an 1894CBL, 24" barrel with ballard rifling on it.  Both great shooters.  I do a lot of cast bullet shooting with mine.  Shoot the Lyman 358429 178gr plain base bullet and the Lyman 358156 FNGC 165gr.  I've
driven the 358156 past 1900fps in both rifles with excellent accuracy.  The 358429 bullet is loaded up in .38 Special brass so it would feed smoothly.  It's a plain base bullet so I don't shoot it much faster than 1500fps.  I plan on using the 358156 FNGC bullet to harvest a Whitetail Deer one of these days.

Saw one at Cabela's here in Billings today, presaftey.  They had $529.99 on it, just $20 less than a new one on the shelf. ???  It was in pretty good shape, certainly not NIB condition.  Standard answer, "we could take $25 off of that price for you" ::)  Not sure how they do their pricing, but I think that's high.  DP
