Real opinions please on Rock Island vs Springfield 1911
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:38:48 PM »
I have had several custom 1911's, now I am just interested in casual shooting on a weekly basis. was looking at a springfield loaded or an RIA tactical. I was told to take another look at the RIA. Not the same as a custom, not looking for a custom. looking for a decent shooter, reasonably priced, that will hold a couple inches at the range which is only 60 feet.

thoughts are okay, practical experience opinions held in high review.

thanks
Michael

I have owned the Springfield in 45acp and thr RIA in 38 Super.  The Springfield was tighter and may be harder metal, mine was the mil spec but was still very accurate.  The Ria makes me think more like the original Colt but mine shoots great and feeds everything I put in it.  For the difference in money I would give the RIA a shot. 8)

Are you looking at the two basic low budget 1911a1's for just a shooter/beater.  I would choose the RIA, its probably the cheapest of the two. For me for mainly a shooter/beater 1911 i want all the fits on the loose side.  I was told many years ago it has to have that 45 rattle.  The springer maybe a tad tighter in tolarences. My search for a new shooter beater continues and the Ria will be my next victum in 45acp.  Its price under $400 i believe right now. I think centerfire systems and sarco has the prices on the ria's listed.
