cz 75 sp 01 versus cz85 combat
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:37:30 AM »
I'm new to handguns, (Canadian) and am looking to purchase for target shooting; possibly ipsc idpa etc.  I have seen these CZ models on the internet and they seem to get good reviews.  Which would be better?  I am not a small man, but have smallish hands.  I have read that the 75 sp 01 has a redesigned grip that fits the hand very well.
Any input appreciated,
Thanks,
Swamp

I have a CZ85DB i know its not a CZ85 combat but you need to pick the best pistol that fits in your hand that your comfortable with if your going to compete with it.  Comfort would be my first choice and the most important thing.  Next would be the quicker combat sights for easy / quick target applications.

I wasn't interested in a 9mm pistol for many years(ever since the early 70's).  Recently i looked at the CZ85DB in 9mm luger and was sold on it.  I think the CZ line of pistols are awesome.  The CZ75 is the choice of the russian special ops.

Swamp,

I own a SP01.  Not the 'Phantom' and not the 'Shadow', just the SP01.  For what you're intending, I would probably recommend the 'Shadow'  if you decided to go with the SP01 because it has the fully adjustable rear sight from what I recall, and the very vibrant fiber optic front sight.  The 'Phantom' is a polymer frame.  If you're like me, you'd probably prefer the additional heft and balance the extra steel adds.  My plain SP01 has nice Tru-Dot sights, but they're non-adjustable, other than tapping them over with a hammer/punch.  You may be able to possibly order the plain SP01 with the adjustable sights tho', I'm not sure on that.

That said, I flat out love my freaking SP01!  Shew, what a gun dude.  And the grip is awesome, and comfy.  Mine is the soft rubber grip, and I adore it.  Fits my hand perfect, and is very non-slip.

Can't speak on the CZ85 as I haven't had an opportunity to try one.

Whichever you go with I'm positive you'll be pleased tho'.  I love CZs.

Good luck deciding,

Chris.
