Experts opinions of someone's plan needed
« on: August 28, 2010, 09:15:37 AM »
I received a ton of advice here for my planned cannon this spring. I have the steel stock and a copy of Antique Ordnance Publishing with plans, but I am slow to get started. It's been busy around here.
Someone on a firearm forum I frequent has a thread on his planned golf ball cannon. He is using .219 wall thickness DOM tubing. He claims to be a US Army Ordnance guy and a machinist. He is building a solid "chamber" to attach to the tubing barrel.
I tried to warn him and linked to this site for educational purposes, but his mind is made up.
Please look at the link and see if I was out of line. I post there as Powderfinger. Thanks.

Looks like it has been pretty well said over there.  Any thing we would say over there would be construed as outsiders sticking our noses into someone elses business.

Extend the invitation to come over here and we will be more than glad to help him get going in the right direction.

Thanks Double D. I'm not asking anyone to go there and "stick their nose " in it. I tried to give some guidance I came here to see if I was wrong in my response about the danger. I linked this forum and respectfully suggested he do some homework. We have had several texts and Private messages, but his mind is made up.

IF he has good dimensions on the powder chamber, he'll likely do ok.
I'll post pix soon of one I've done which is similar.
He'll likely get powder residue build up, which can be limited by swabing between each shot.

I am no expert. What's being entertained over there might wind up being someone's obituary. :o
